A post below from Lynn Sleight our App Trail traveler. I called and spoke to her today. She’s in good spirits. She’s glad to get some roast beef, French bread and a beer. She said when it’s low, it’s really low. When it’s high, she’s really high. I’m so proud of her.
Lynn states, “I made it to New Hampshire! Today I'm taking a rest day (or two) in Gorham, New Hampshire. With 300 miles of trail behind me I am now facing the White Mountains.
This trail is teaching me a lot about respect. Momma Nature is beautiful. She is also very powerful. She is in charge, not us. I am finding my limits and how much risk I am willing to take.
Most hikers have three things that I do not have. Most have a reliable phone with the "Far Out" navigation app. Most have a hiking partner or group. And, most have an emergency Garmin device to notify rescue if needed.
I like to use my paper map for navigation and I enjoy hiking solo. And, I'm just foolish to not have a Garmin device for emergency.
Based on these three details and my personal preference for hiking among trees, I have made the decision to get a shuttle around the White Mountains. I plan to resume my hike near the Vermont border and continue south. There will still be lots and lots and lots of trail to enjoy. I feel a bit sad about missing the White Mountains but also a sense of relief.
