Oswego Speedway Welcome to the Facebook home of Oswego Speedway, a 5/8 mile semi-banked pavement racing oval & Home of the Supermodifieds
(2430)

The Oswego Speedway, located in Oswego, NY, was built in 1951 when original owners Harry, George, and William Caruso converted the one time Wine Creek Horse Track into a 3/8 mile dirt auto racing facility. The track was paved during 1952 and remained a 3/8 mile track until 1961 when it was enlarged to its current 5/8 mile size. The Oswego Speedway has been a continuously run weekly race track sinc

e it opened in August of 1951. The Speedway has undergone vast capital improvements over the course of its 60 plus years of existence and updates are constantly being made to keep it a state-of-the-art racing facility. In 2011, the Speedway's spacious VIP suites were all beautifully updated, a new digital scoring tower was erected, and fresh paint was added as far as the eye could see. Not to mention, several sections of the Gary Witter Memorial Rear Grandstand were reconstructed. In racing circles Oswego Speedway is mentioned as the "Indy of the East" as no fewer than a dozen past and present competitors have competed at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway including two-time Indy 500 champion Gordon Johncock, along with former Budwesier International Classic Champions Bentley Warren, Joe Gosek, and Davey Hamilton. The unique configuration of sweeping turns and a wide racing surface make two and three abreast racing a common sight at Oswego Speedway. Steel walls surround the outside and inside of the racing surface making "The Steel Palace" a truly one of a kind facility. The infield area of the Speedway is almost completely paved for competitors. Steel grandstands line both the front and rear of the track with complete seating capacity in excess of 15,000 people. Most of the front grandstands are covered by a roof and protected by a safety screen. The third and fourth turns of the original 3/8 mile track were re-paved in 2004 and now gives the track two unique configurations to host a variety of different racecars. Oswego Speedway's events are scheduled on Saturday nights from May to September with most starting times at 6:30pm. Special events and races at the beginning or end of the season may start earlier. The Budwesier International Classic 200 is held on Sunday of Labor Day Weekend and culminates a week-long celebration of racing and other track activities.

β€œThe car is not the best right now, but I'm happy for Talen, my nephew. I love seeing those boys win. Having a couple young guns up front running away from a veteran like me, I'm happy for all of them. It's good for the 350 division to have good young runners like that. Between Talen, Dawson, Robbie, and Savannah, it's promising for the division coming up.

But I have some homework to do because I shouldn't be getting beat this bad by some young kids. We'll see what happens next week.

I have to thank everyone involved with the 350 program – Lighthouse Lanes, Bruce Electric, Rupert's Party Rentals, Canale Insurance, Millennium Music, Bruce Construction, everybody that helps us out, and all the crew guys busting their tails. I appreciate it.” – Mike Bruce πŸ₯‰ (Third Place – Oswego County Tourism 350 Supermodified 25-lapper)

β€œIf it was 30 laps, we may have had something. Talen was a tad bit better than us on entry, and I think if we could get it to rotate a little better, we could have had a good battle up front. But just that little bit on entry was hurting us.

I'd like to thank J&S Paving, Whacko Gr**go, Pullen's Plumbing, Atlas Blacktop & Equipment, and Marsden Supply Co. for all of their support.” – Robbie Wirth πŸ₯ˆ (Second Place – Oswego County Tourism 350 Supermodified 25-lapper)

β€œWe didn't get a great start, but I was glad I could roll in deep on the bottom and keep the spot. We had a pretty good car all night, definitely better than last week. I thought we did a good job regrouping after last week. It was an unfortunate week, but we came back out and caught a W.

I'd like to thank Top Quality Construction, Sean Magari Enterprises, SharkScapes, Furdis, and Raby's. I'd also like to thank my grandfather Joe Hawksby Sr. 'The Colonel,' who couldn't be here tonight, my dad, and Greg Furlong for helping me out." – Talen Hawksby πŸ₯‡ (Winner – Oswego County Tourism 350 Supermodified 25-lapper)

"The 77 popped out of gear on the frontstretch when we lost second. I was right up his tail when it happened, so I lifted and went to turn low, and the 1 car came flying by on the inside. Instead of collecting all three of us down there in turn one, I had to let him go.

I have a lot of sponsors to thank – Gearbox Driving Experience, MARDON PC, Mtel, Chipper Chassis, Carsons, Scotty's Towing, my wife and daughter at home – I love you, my parents, my brother, and how cool is it to get Jeff Carson back on the podium at Oswego Speedway? Thanks everybody for coming out and bearing with us." – Bryan Haynes πŸ₯‰ (3rd Place – Tony White Memorial)

"We got passed before we even came out of the corner. Andy (Jodway) got it stuck down low. He had a good car and had a good car all day. I don't even think we were that good all day, so just to be able to lead the laps that we led today and have the car run as good as it did in the feature, I'm happy with the team and everybody. Thanks to Lakeside Restaurant, Woodchuck Saloon, and TGR Motorsports. Hats off to those guys. Good job." – Cameron Rowe πŸ₯ˆ (Second Place – Tony White Memorial)

"I just saw an opportunity on the restart. There was a lot of track open, so I used it, and what a race it was. All these years later, I found it back. Wow. Have to thank Maplewood Bar & Grill, FL Crane & Sons – an awesome drywall firm – and someone real special that lost his life to cancer last week, Chris Boyle. So this is for him. Thanks to him." – Andy Jodway πŸ… (Winner – Tony White Memorial)

πŸ“Š With two Oswego Super Challenge races in the books and three remaining, here is a look at the updated championship standings.

Dave Shullick Jr. has been able to build his points lead thanks to a victory in the ISMA/MSS opener on May 30 and a runner-up finish to Otto Sitterly in last Saturday's Jim Shampine Memorial.

Michael Barnes' podium finish in the Shampine Memorial, coupled with a solid top-10 effort in the winged opener, has moved the Syrell Racing No. 68 up to third in points. Dave Danzer sits fourth in the No. 52 following a top-five run in wing competition and a seventh-place finish in the Shampine Memorial, while Tyler Thompson holds fifth by just one point over Michael Muldoon.

Mike McVetta, Josh Sokolic, Otto Sitterly, who used his Shampine Memorial victory to climb to ninth, and Nick Snyder currently round out the top 10 in Challenge points.

Still remaining on the schedule are ISMA/MSS Round No. 2 on August 8, the $10,000-to-win Novelis Supermodified special on August 15, and the 70th running of the Budweiser International Classic 200 on September 6.
