Remember - This Sunday is the last official trail work day before the WednesdaysatWakefield race series starts. Don't let Larry be out there all by himself. You know he'll start singing.

Thanks to the 30-ish folks and crew leaders who showed up last Sunday to help get the trails at Wakefield ready for the winter. The last of the mowing and trimming, dead fall removal, bridge/boardwalk repair and two short reroutes all got completed. We would have liked to have done some drainage work out under the power lines but we just didn't have enough people but nobody is complaining! Couldn't make the trail work day and want to help by donating for fuel, equipment and the occasional donut, click on this link: https://more-mtb.org/collections/virginia-trails/products/wakefield-park

Looks like the Park Authority will be lowering the Lake level to complete their inspections. Look for the warning signs and fencing:

For those who like to ride from Wakefield/Accotink to Laurel Hill be prepared for the closures. Even after the first northern section reopens, climbing that hill to the detour is always TOUGH!

Beginning on March 17th, the Cross-county trail will be closed for 3 months due to the Pohick Sewer Rehabilitation Project. Once the work at the northern end of the project area is complete, the Cross-county trail will be reopened with the detour along Pohick Road. This detour will last for 12-15 months while the rest of the project is finished. For alternate park locations and trail options please use the Park Authorities Land Amenity Locator and Fairfax County Trail Buddy, both links can be found below:

THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the MORE Wakefield Trailwork day on Sunday. We got the trails trimmed back for late fall and winter riding/hiking. We had lots of representation from Team XXL and DMV Mountain Biking, plus a number of other wonderful volunteers. Such a rewarding way to give back to the trails!

For those who were not able to make it, we have another work day scheduled for Saturday December 14th: https://x.gldn.io/e/eYlwA4At9Nb

Alternatively, you can donate to the trails here: https://more-mtb.org/collections/trails/products/wakefield-park

CALL TO ACTION: INFORM THE STATEWIDE TRAILS PLAN!
Help inform Virginia's Network of Trails!

Virginia's Statewide Multi-use Trails Plan will lay the groundwork for a network of multi-use trails in the Commonwealth. The State Trails Office reached out to IMBA to activate the voices of mountain bikers through the process.

The VA Statewide Multi-use Trails Plan will inventory existing and proposed multi-use trails in the Commonwealth; identify key gaps in Virginia’s network of multi-use trails; outline the next steps and best practices in trail development; and provide opportunities for community visioning and engagement.

You don't have to be an expert on trails to participate, but you do have to submit your survey by October 22nd. The survey will take approximately five minutes to complete, and you are encouraged to share it with your family, friends, and colleagues who reside in Virginia.
