It is with deep regret the department announces the death of active, off duty Firefighter Karan P. Thadhani, Ladder 135 - on May 24, 2026. Firefighter Thadhani served our great department for 9 years.

The FDNY extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fellow members mourning the loss of Boston Firefighter Robert T. Kilduff, who tragically died in the line of duty while operating at a three-alarm fire on Treadway Road.

We honor his courage, dedication, and sacrifice in service to others. May he rest in peace and never be forgotten.

Chicago police officer killed in line of duty at North Side hospital ID’d by authorities, another officer in critical condition

Authorities have released the identity of the Chicago police officer shot and killed in the line of duty at a North Side hospital Saturday.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office (CCMEO) identified the fallen officer as 38-year-old John Bartholomew. Police had previously confirmed that Bartholomew was a 10-year CPD veteran. Autopsy results showed Bartholomew died from a gunshot wound to the head, and the CCMEO ruled his death a homicide.

Another officer was critically injured in the shooting but has not yet been identified by authorities. Police confirmed that officer is 57 years old and has been with CPD for over 20 years.

According to police, the two officers were involved in a shooting that occurred at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital, located in the 5100 block of North California Avenue, in Lincoln Square.

Officials from Endeavor Health said the alleged gunman was a patient who was in the custody of law enforcement and was brought in for treatment at around 9 a.m.
