🌟June Runner Spotlight 🌟

Meet Shaundra Fairfield! She has lived in Muskegon for most of her life. As the middle child of 5 (who loves to bring that up whenever she can), she comes from a loving family with parents and siblings who have always been there for her and supported her dreams. She is now working as a Pastor of Congregational Care and Worship. She loves hastily starting projects (sometimes to her husband’s dismay), and she is known to be a collector of unfinished to-do lists. She’s been married to her handsome husband, Mark, for 17 years, and together they’re raising two wonderful children: Nathan (12) and Allie (almost 11), who keep life loud, busy, and heavily dependent on snacks. 🙂

She loves living in Michigan, specifically during the few glorious months in the summer when the sun appears and beach trips are possible. The rest of the year she survives on coffee, faith, and questioning why anyone voluntarily lives somewhere the wind feels personally offensive (especially when going out for a run!). She also loves sunsets (or a sunrise when she can get up early enough!), hiking, board games, meeting friends for coffee, reading several books at the same time, a good Sunday afternoon nap, and spending time with her family and friends.

Up next in our pacer spotlight is Marcos!
Marcos started running 25 years ago to clear his head and never stopped. He's in his 4th year pacing the Seaway Run, and he loves the scenic route, the atmosphere, the people, and the fact that it’s close to home. Long slow miles are his comfort zone and he’s equally at home in the marathon and half marathon distances. The New York City Marathon stands out as his favorite race memory, and Tokyo is on his bucket list. He runs in Sauconys, prefers hot mornings, and keeps Pink Floyd and Dire Straits in his ears. His runner logic: head out for 8 miles, come back having run 15. What has running taught him? Discipline, above everything else.

Thanks for running with us, Marcos! Meet all of our awesome pacers at seawayrun.com/pacers

Congratulations again to the Jennifer Vanderstelt Scholarship recipients — Kaitlin, Aleigha, Valeria, and Nicole!

A huge shout-out and thank you to the scholarship committee for organizing a celebration to recognize these recipients and for continuing to share Jen’s amazing and inspiring story: “Just one more mile.” See photo for a snap shot of Jen’s story.

Jen began making an impact on Run Muskegon and so many others, and her legacy continues to inspire today.

🏆🎓 2026 Jennifer VanderStelt Memorial Scholarship Recipients

Run Muskegon is excited to also recognize Valeria Morales-Zuniga and Nicole Terpstra as this year’s Jennifer VanderStelt Memorial Scholarship recipients!

📚 Valeria, a Muskegon resident, works as a Pharmacy Technician while earning her associate’s degree in nursing at MCC. Her hard work and commitment to helping others make her truly deserving of this honor.

📚 Nicole, who lives in Ravenna, is a retired military veteran currently studying nursing at MCC. In addition to school, she stays active in the community by coaching Youth Cheer and 7th grade Volleyball.

🎂👏 These two are hitting the books hard and were unable submit a photo for the scholarship, but we’d love for you to join us Wednesday, May 27th at 7:30pm as we celebrate Valeria and Nicole!

🏆🎓 2026 Jennifer VanderStelt Memorial Scholarship

Meet Aleigha Reyes, Run Muskegon’s second Jennifer VanderStelt Memorial Scholarship recipient!

🎂👏 Join us on Wednesday, May 27th at 7:30pm to celebrate and recognize Aleigha’s determination, grit, and accomplishments.

Aleigha is a graduate of Grand Haven High School and currently attends Muskegon Community College pursuing her nursing degree. She has always lived an active lifestyle and credits her family for encouraging her and her siblings to stay involved in sports growing up.

Aleigha has also dedicated time to serving her community through the Student Nurse Club at MCC, volunteering at events and helping connect students with nursing and healthcare job opportunities.

She says her biggest motivation comes from her family and her future patients, and she’s especially proud of the hard work it’s taken to succeed in nursing school. Her mindset is simple: take things day by day or mile by mile and trust that she will reach the finish line. Similar to Jen’s motto of “just one more mile”.

Congratulations, Aleigha!
