Chapter 21: Becoming the Teacher
Yoga had already begun helping me find my way back to myself. It gave me strength, helped me breathe through discomfort, and taught me how to meet my body where it was.
But somewhere along the way, yoga became more than something I practiced. I began to feel called to share it.
In 2018, I made the decision to begin yoga teacher training. I was not trying to become the strongest or most flexible person in the room. I wanted to understand yoga more deeply and learn how to make it available to people whose bodies did not always move the way they wanted them to.
Living with MS meant I could not always do everything the traditional way. I had to listen to my body, modify poses, rest when I needed to, and remind myself that doing something differently did not mean I was doing it wrong.
That lesson would become the heart of the teacher I was becoming.
I completed my first yoga teacher training in 2018. Then, in 2019, I taught my first class at a local park.
Standing in front of that class, I was nervous. But I also knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
The same practice that had helped me heal was now giving me a way to help others.
I wanted people living with MS, chronic illness, pain, or physical limitations to know that yoga could still belong to them.
That first class planted the seed for what would eventually become MS YogaMovements and a purpose I never could have imagined.
Has something that helped heal you ever become something you felt called to share?
