You may have noticed three new signs at Black Partridge Park announcing the upcoming closure from November 1 through December 31. We understand how important the park is to our community and recognize that this change may raise questions and concerns.
Throughout this year, the Park District has worked with legal counsel and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to review the deer management program and help ensure it is carried out as safely and responsibly as possible. This is the first time a program of this kind has taken place at Black Partridge Park.
🦌 Why the program? The goal is to protect the long-term health of the park by reducing pressure on native vegetation, supporting forest regeneration, and maintaining a healthier balance between the deer population and available habitat.
The program also provides an opportunity to donate harvested venison to local food assistance organizations and gives youth participants a chance to learn about wildlife conservation, hunting safety, and responsible outdoor stewardship.
Our goal is to preserve Black Partridge Park as a healthy, safe, and sustainable natural resource for wildlife and future generations. We appreciate our community’s patience and understanding.
