Wanted to take a moment to thank the Baseball Players from Melrose High School and Bishop Fenwick High School for VOLUNTEERING their April Vacation days to come out and help the little leaguers of Melrose & Reading.

Also want to thank Coach Butterfield & Coach Rametta from the MIT baseball coaching staff taking a step back from their college seasons to share their knowledge of the game.

Ballplayer of the Day: Mason 😎⚾️

Mason showed up both days in a full MLB uniform, shades on, and a whole lot of swagger—but he backed it up the right way. Every drill, every rep, he brought hustle, confidence, athleticism, and great sportsmanship.

What really set him apart today was his poise when the pressure hit. In a pitching challenge, it was K–2 vs. 3rd–6th grade—and the younger group felt it right away. Instead of folding, Mason stepped up. He looked at his team and told them they could win… then went out and earned them their first point.

That moment flipped everything.

The younger group went on to win by 2, and Mason’s belief and leadership played a huge role in it. That’s what Ballplayer of the Day is all about—showing up, lifting others up, and delivering when it matters most. 💪

BALLPLAYER OF THE DAY: BEN ⚾️

Ben showed exactly what it means to be a great teammate today. From the moment we got started, he was locked in—working hard, asking thoughtful questions, and making the most out of every rep. He hustled to pick up balls to keep drills moving and maximize his opportunities, and he stayed focused whenever coaches were giving instruction.

What really stood out was his fearlessness in the field. Ben put his body in front of multiple hard-hit ground balls, knocked them down, and still found a way to make accurate throws. That kind of toughness and commitment doesn’t go unnoticed.

On top of all that, he played the game the right way—competing hard while having fun and bringing great energy to his group.

The way Ben carries himself is exactly the attitude we look for as coaches. Keep it rolling 👏

⚾️ Ballplayer of the Day: Cole ⚾️

Cole might have been one of the youngest campers out there today, but you never would’ve guessed it based on the impact he made.

From the second he stepped on the field, it was clear—he was having an absolute blast. Every drill, every rep, every moment… he embraced it all. Cole brought nonstop energy, fired up his group, competed hard, and kept our coaches busy with great questions all day long. He was even quick to help his group of 1st graders track down bats and gloves when they lost them (which happened more than a few times this week!).

More than anything, Cole showed exactly what it means to love the game. His attitude was contagious, and the way he carried himself made everyone around him better.

The best part? He never let up. Same energy, same enthusiasm, start to finish. That kind of joy and passion is what this game is all about—and Cole brought it all day long. 💪

Ballplayer of the Day: Connor 👏⚾️

As one of the youngest in the group, Connor showed exactly what it means to be a great teammate. Patience, leadership, athleticism, and elite listening skills — all on display today.

When his group was playing pickle, he stepped up and volunteered to be an end fielder… only if Coach Rob was on the other side! That’s a tough spot for anyone, especially in the youngest group — quick reactions, fast decisions, and tagging out runners coming at full speed. Connor embraced it with confidence and made it look easy.

Most importantly, he took full advantage of every rep and every opportunity to get better today. That’s how you separate yourself.
