Congratulations to the Melrose Youth Wrestling team on a great season. Your hard work at practice, weekend scrimmaging, dual meets and tournaments via the Raiders Sports Club (RSC) has paid off. The highlight of the season was wining the 12U Massachusetts Wrestling Association (MWA) North Sectional Championship. Melrose competed against 29 tough teams & came out on top! 🥇🏆

Thank you to our high school wrestlers who have helped coach our youth team. Your presence at practice and competition has been greatly appreciated and you have acted as mentors and role models for our youth competition team.

Good luck to the wrestlers who qualified in Sectionals and will be competing in the State Championship Tournament on Sunday! 🤼💪🏻

12U Sectional Champs! Kellan 1st place 103, Tighe 2nd 97, Donovan 3rd 81, Harrison 3rd 86, Dean 2nd 86, Dev 3rd 69. Still won the title despite being short one of our best- Preston. 🥇🤼

There will be a wrestling opportunity this Saturday for both beginners and experienced wrestlers.

This weekend's event will be held at the Tewksbury John Wynn Middle School and is the first of 4 NER League events planned for this season.

Dates:
12/21 -Location: Tewksbury-John Wynn Middle School
1/4 - Location: North Andover Middle School
1/11 - Location: Chelmsford Parker Middle School
1/18 - Location: Tewksbury-John Wynn Middle School

The outline for Saturday 12/21 is as follows:

Scrimmage hour 8am to 9am (for beginners and advanced wrestlers k-8) Teams Scrimmaging will be: Melrose, Tewksbury, Methuen, Haverhill

Dual meets 9am to 11am (advanced wrestlers grades 4-5 and all middle school aged wrestlers) Teams competing will be: Melrose vs Tewksbury & Melrose vs Haverhill

2024-2025 Registration is open for Melrose Youth & Middle School Wrestling!

The Melrose Wrestling Club invites youth athletes to join our dynamic wrestling program. Designed for both beginners and seasoned wrestlers, our program emphasizes skill development, conditioning, and teamwork in a supportive environment. Participants will receive comprehensive instruction focused on mastering the fundamentals of wrestling and preparing for optional weekend competitions. Our practices will cover essential skills and techniques, along with an introduction to the formats of competitive wrestling.

Throughout the season, coaches may provide information about optional competitions, duel meets, scrimmages, and tournaments outside of the Recreation Department (extra fees may apply as competitions are not associated with the Rec Dept).

Join us for a challenging yet enjoyable experience where young athletes can improve their skills, build confidence, and be part of the Melrose wrestling team!

Congratulations to Coach Mike Sweezey who was inducted into the Melrose High School Wrestling Hall of Fame over the weekend! Sweezey was an All-State Champion in 1997, a 1997 D2 state champion, a 2x sectional champion, 2x All-State placer, & a 2x team Captain. He had over 100 wins during his High School career and was named a Boston Globe All-Scholastic and a Boston Herald All-Scholastic wrestler. We are fortunate to be coached by such a talented wrestler!
