After hearing renowned in-shore guide and prolific redfish slayer, Captain Troy Perez, say at the Sept Backcountry Flyfishing Assoc of Brevard (BFFA) monthly meeting that he throws almost exclusively black Clousers, I thought it wouldn't hurt to tie up a few! I did have to add in some purple to mix it up a bit. Thanks for recommendations Troy! Look forward to getting them wet! To steal the line about chartreuse, "If it ain't black, you ain't catchin' jack!"

Tested out the marabou flies we recently tied at the Backcountry Flyfishing Assoc of Brevard (BFFA) flytying session. I had action in two colors; white/chartreuse fooled a 17" snook and a healthy red jumped on the all white version! She went on a long drag screaming run and then then turned under a dock. Hook bent and she was gone...🥺

Had the pleasure of taking out Matt Prichard this morning to wade a local spot. He had flyfished in the past out in the PacNW and wanted try out the salt here. We got into small trout, ladies and small jacks. I did score a fat 19" trout. Some topwater, but most on white schminnows. Glass minnows were everywhere! Nice job Matt! Mission accomplished!

Perseverance paid off with a 23"er! Gusty winds, dirty water and the sound of distant thunder rumbling had me ready to call it quits early. But I kept moving and found some nice moving water with a mangrove bank. My new line mat from SFC - superflycomposites.com, LLC kept things under control (thanks Mark!).

Explored the northern Mosquito Lagoon today. Cloud cover made sight fishing tough, but at least it wasn't sweltering! Felt like fall! Yesterday I played around in the surf. Prefect conditions; calm winds, high tide, 1' swell. Unfortunately, the fish didn't get the memo! Other than some big tarpon busting baitfish way offshore, there was little baitfish activity. Still a nice change of scenery.

Chased some reds with the Invisible Man today. Unfortunately, we didn't see too many tailing. First shot, rushed it and spooked it. Second one, fly was crossing right in front. Fish turned and started to follow. Then abruptly turned away at the fly. Turns out I had picked up a long blade of sea grass! And just like that, that was it for action. Still, I had two more shots at fish than I would have had home on the couch on a Sunday! Over-all, super fun day with Capt Brandon E. McGraw, an Orvis Outfitter. Visit SpaceCoastFishingCharters.com for more info! Runs a beautiful new Hell's Bay Skiff. It will keep you cool on a hot day!

Started the nice 'warm' day off this weekend with this snookie just after dawn. Rest of day was pretty slow - a couple of shots to a few uninterested reds. Highlight of the day was at the end before noon, working the mangroves on my way paddling back to my launch site. There I saw a nice sized red in the shade. He didn't spot me so I was able to set up, anchor and take a nice shot. Unfortunately, an unseen branch hanging low caught my fly! To add injury to insult, as I quietly pull my board over to retrieve my fly, two slot-size snook and a good sized red casually cruised by 3ft in front me! I could almost see their grins...ahh, fishing...Gotta love it!
