The PA Fish and Boat Commission is holding a Catfishing "Meet-Up" at Burrell Lake Park next Wednesday, August 19, 6:30 - 8:30pm. If you are a certified fishing instructor, Mandy Smith, the PFBC South West Education Specialist would love to have some helpers at the program.
If you are not an instructor, you can sign up as a participant via the link below. If you have friends or family who don't usually fish, this is a good program to sign up for, because the fishing license requirement is waived for the event, so they won't need a license to try fishing. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

If you are a certified instructor and you are able to help, please call or text Joe Reskiewicz on his cell at 724-991-9711 to let him know.

TCTC needs volunteers to help with fly tying or fly casting at the Vandergrift Youth Sportsfest this coming Saturday August 1, 2026. This is an event that we have attended in the past and is a great way to reach young outdoors people to get them interested in angling!

First of all, I want to stress that you don't need to be an accomplished fly caster or fly tyer to help out at this event! Even if you are a beginner, you can definitely be of help!

I have included some pics from previous years events. This event is always well attended with lots of kids who are interested in learning about the outdoor sports. This is a great opportunity for TCTC to promote fishing and to de-mystify the basics of fly fishing.

Please come help out if you can spare a few hours this Saturday.

TCTC supplies all of the fly rods, fly tying vises and materials. We just need you! All volunteers are treated to lunch and beverages by the Vandergrift Sportsman's Club!

We usually arrive around 7:00am to set up the fly rods and fly tying vises. The last group of the day is usually around 2:30 or 3pm. If you can help out at any point, we would really appreciate it!

This event is located at the Vandergrift Sportsmen’s Association Inc., 603 SPORTSMAN DRIVE, APOLLO, PA 15613

Please contact us at [email protected] if you would like to volunteer or need more info.

In Memoriam: TCTC Members Joe Shurina & Jack Momberger

In the run up to the Burrell Lake Park Kids’ Fishing Derby, this coming Saturday June 13, 2026, we cannot help but recall two of our departed members who were so active in our youth programs and enthusiastic supporters of the Kids’ Fishing Derby, Jack Momberger and Joe Shurina. Both men were active KARE Instructors in the PA Fish & Boat Commission’s (PFBC) SMART Angler and Family Fishing Programs. Both were always on hand helping young anglers at the Burrell Lake Park Kids’ Fishing Derby and were fixtures at our monthly TCTC meetings. In addition, Jack was the chair of the event that preceded the Kids’ Fishing Derby, a day of assisting exceptional children to fish at Burrell Lake Park. With their memories in mind, we will try our best to help all of the kids who attend on Saturday develop the same love for fishing and helping others that these two men possessed.

Again, TCTC Members and Friends if you can spare a few hours, please come to help out this Saturday.
