If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire… this giant chicken just outside of Bardstown.

Recently visited my old friend Ozzie Frank, who really is in remarkable shape after all these years, at the legendary Rooster Run on KY-245, halfway between Clermont and Bardstown.

The 14-foot-tall fiberglass bird actually came on the heels of the massive success of Rooster Run hats, which were, believe it or not, a fashion craze among long-haul truckers in the late '80s.

By 1991, the owner of the gas station estimated the store had sold roughly 1.5 million caps. These days, you can find an old Rooster Run hat on eBay for about twelve bucks. And Ozzie here stands today as a monument to all things Rooster Run.

I know what you’re thinking…

“Why does my Glencairn need a tiny hat?” 🎩

Allow me to explain.

Tasting caps do a few very important things:

🥃 Keep dust, debris, and random nonsense out of your glass

🥃 Keep all those wonderful bourbon aromas IN your glass until you’re ready to sip

And perhaps most importantly, they make your Glencairn look absolutely adorable.

Functional AND fashionable!

Biologically speaking, my heart is located in my chest. Emotionally speaking? It’s always had a second home residing at the Kentucky Science Center. 🫀🔬

I've been a huge fan of Louisville's for years. My kids have spent countless hours there exploring exhibits, attending camp, and celebrating at birthday parties. And don't ask me how many times I've put myself in a bubble.

It's one of those places that makes Louisville a better place to live. So when I saw this bourbon-themed fundraiser, I had to share it.

The Kentucky Science Center is raffling off an absolutely incredible experience with the Bardstown Bourbon Company. One lucky winner (and up to seven good friends) will get a private distillery tour, a top-notch lunch, and the chance to taste through multiple barrels and select an entire barrel of Origin Series Single Barrel Bourbon. 🥃

Not a bottle.

A BARREL.

The winning group will even get a custom label, the empty barrel, and somewhere in the neighborhood of 120-240 bottles depending on the yield.

ONLY 150 tickets are available at $100 each and a winner will be drawn on June 29th.

EACH ticket helps support the Kentucky Science Center's mission of inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, inventors, and curious minds.

I try not to play favorites with Louisville landmarks, but my chemistry with the Science Center has always been undeniable.

One of my favorite days on the calendar…

Wishing a big Happy National Bourbon Day to everyone!

Enjoy my two whiskey moods: Juggling as many bottles as I can hold or patiently waiting to fill a glass 🥃

Gonna raise a glass to the makers, the history and all the damn fine bottles of America's Native Spirit. on the shelf today. Cheers!

Ah, I’m fairly certain that there are some days where these are really the ONLY type of decisions I make.

In any case, this is a solid mantra (rally cry? tattoo inspiration?) for any kind of summer merriment. Cheers to the long days of June!

Everyone loves a comeback story. 🥃

On Thursday, June 18th, we're raising a glass to four Kentucky bourbon brands that refused to stay buried.

Some 20th century Kentucky distilleries were wiped out by Prohibition, some disappeared after fires and others simply faded away with time. Yet against the odds, they found their way back onto the shelf.

Join me at Treadwell Society in Elizabethtown as we sip through four fantastic pours and uncover the stories behind some of Kentucky bourbon's greatest resurrections.

🥃 Green River Wheated Full Proof
🥃 Neeley Family Bottled-in-Bond Four Grain
🥃 Kentucky Peerless Double Oak
🥃 W.H. McBrayer Barrel Strength

Expect great whiskey, fascinating history, a few myths shattered along the way, bourbon chocolates, giveaways, and plenty of lively discussion!

Every bottle has a story. These bottles have survived a century of setbacks just to tell theirs.

I had the chance to chat with Sam Tabor from recently, and I had one challenge for him: explain what makes Pinhook unique in 28 words or less. 🥃

He nailed it!

For those who don’t know, Pinhook is doing something genuinely different in the bourbon world. The release annual vintages, meaning they blend to the best taste each year, not necessarily the same taste each year.

Oh, and I also pitched them on adding a little horsey topper to their bottles to match that beautiful horse on the label. 🐎

They haven’t confirmed it yet. But I feel good about it.

Go give a follow and a pour. Trust me on this one. 🥃

News about this event from Old Forester came across my desk and I figured a few of you might want to know about this one. 🥃👍🏻

Not only are they releasing new bottles of the always highly sought-after President's Choice Bourbon & President's Choice Rye, but they're pairing it with a chef's dinner at the distillery. All hosted by Master Distiller Emeritus Chris Morris and Asst. Master Distiller Caleb Trigo.

Your ticket includes a bottle of each release!

The price tag is definitely in the "special occasion" category, but opportunities to purchase President's Choice or have an evening like this don't come around very often.

Any takers at $1,000 a seat? 👀

One of my stops along the southern side of the KY Bourbon Trail that I never get tired of visiting is Limestone Branch Distillery. Located just a stone's throw outside of Lebanon, KY. 🥃

This whiskey spot checks all the boxes: ridiculously friendly staff, a great tour, a cozy setup, and some downright delicious whiskey. Plus, this distillery offers a chance to kick your heels up a bit and smoke a cigar on the patio.

If you're planning some bourbon adventures this summer, do yourself a favor and mix in a stop like this. It’s a great reminder that some of the best bourbon experiences happen on a smaller scale.

Terrific spot all around. (Added bonus - if Fante happens to be there kicking around, you are all but guaranteed a memorable and fun experience.)
