The gap between belts doesn’t get bigger. It compounds.
White to blue feels like a mountain. Then you tie on the blue belt and realize it was the foothill.
Here’s what nobody explains: every belt is the sum of the two before it. Purple isn’t “a better blue” — it’s blue built on white. Brown is purple built on blue. Black is brown built on purple… the whole sequence, stacked.
It’s the same pattern nature uses to grow. The Fibonacci sequence. The golden ratio. 1 · 2 · 3 · 5 · 8 — each number created from the two before it, expanding toward φ (1.618). Nautilus shells. Galaxies. And the path of a jiu jitsu lifer.
That’s 改善 — kaizen. Small, consistent improvements, compounding into something extraordinary.
