In 2013, Maryknoll Shotokan celebrates itd 50th Anniversary making it one of the oldest conitunuously active karate groups in America. Started in 1963 by Tsutomu Ohshima, at that time the Japanese language teacher at Maryknoll School, and John Teramoto, then an 8th grade student. First elementary school karate group in the USA. Practices continue today on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday

mornings. Ohshima is currently chief instructor of Shotokan Karate of America. He is a direct pupil of Master Gichin Funakoshi who introduced karate to Japan from Okinawa. Please visit our dojo website as well as Shotokan Karate of America at ska.org

Chicken Teriyaki Bingo returns on Sunday, September 20, 2026! The Maryknoll Karate Club is hosting its 39th Annual Chicken Teriyaki and Bingo Fundraiser, featuring its famous generational barbecue chicken teriyaki plates alongside cash bingo games, generous cash pots, and free raffle prizes.

Food Service: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Bingo: 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Location: St. Francis Xavier Japanese Catholic Center (Maryknoll) in Little Tokyo, 222 S. Hewitt Street, Los Angeles (2 blocks east of Alameda Street on 2nd Street).

Yes, it's that time of year to test lady luck and treat yourself to some delicious BBQ teriyaki chicken and a cold beverage!

It's happening this Sunday, September 21st. Family and friends are welcome!

Food will be served from 11 am - 5 pm
Bingo games will run from 12 noon to 6 pm
