Y'all, lifting weights is ✨ MAGIC ✨ for so many reasons:⁠

✅ increased muscle mass⁠
✅ increased bone density⁠
✅ improved insulin sensitivity⁠
✅ decreased risk of disease⁠
✅ decreased risk of injury⁠
⁠.. but one of the most overlooked benefits of lifting weights is that it makes you stronger and more capable in your every day life.⁠

This is a HUGE benefit — especially for women who want to live full, vibrant lives throughout midlife and beyond.⁠

Here are just a few real-life reasons to lift weights:⁠

💪🏻 carrying all the groceries in 1 trip⁠
💪🏻 easily picking up kiddos & doggies⁠

🗣️ Strength training is *MAGIC* for women who are 40+ 🗣️⁠

OK I could argue that it's magic for ALL women, but here's why it's EXTRA important for women who are over 40:⁠

1️⃣ Muscle Loss: after age 30, sedentary women lose ~3–8% of their muscle mass every decade — (generally, older = faster it goes).

This muscle loss impacts metabolism and hormone health, and can lead to decreased activity, and increase injury risk and frailty.⁠

2️⃣ Strength Loss: the loss of muscle can impact simple functions like walking, standing up off the toilet, and getting up after a fall.

And decreased activity and increased injury risk can accelerate loss of muscle and strength.⁠

3️⃣ Bone Loss — on average, a woman’s bone density decreases each year starting in her 40s.

And in the U.S., 40% of women will experience an osteoporotic fracture at some point after menopause. ⁠

The good news?⁠

Strength training can help women gain muscle, strength, and bone — at any age.⁠

Warning: don't watch this one unless you have tissues ready... 😭⁠

I wanted to reshare this video because:

It's almost the 4 year anniversary of losing my sister...⁠

Multiple close friends have just suffered big losses in their lives...⁠

And as I've been thinking about grief — this shattering human experience that we all have at some point — I was thinking about this beautiful thing some cultures do...⁠

They wear black armbands on their arms for the year after they lose someone important to them. 🖤⁠

It signals to the world that they're grieving and to be gentle with them.⁠

I don't know about you, but after I lost my sister I wanted to wear that black armband.⁠

I wanted people to know how much I was hurting. ⁠
How shattered my life was. ⁠
How important my sister was to me and how I'd never, ever be the same.⁠

I wanted them to understand how preposterous it was that the Earth was continuing to spin and life was going on when my sister was no longer here.⁠

I wanted them to ask about her so I could tell them how amazing she was.⁠

I wanted people to be gentle, and tender, and patient with me because I was so fragile.⁠

And it got me think how so many people walk through the world wearing invisible black armbands.⁠

They’ve just lost someone they love.⁠
They've just had their world shattered.⁠
Their lives will never be the same.⁠

And we may never know it.⁠

And so... what if we walked through the world treating everyone we meet as if they might be wearing one of those invisible bands?⁠

We’d probably be a lot kinder. Show more patience. Have more compassion.⁠

Because grief is everywhere. It's the price we pay for loving and being loved, and it's a human experience we all share.⁠

So if you’re carrying that invisible black armband right now, I see you. ⁠

And I want you to know you’re not alone. 💙

The Wi-Fi repair guy summed up everything wrong with diet culture in one sentence. 😅⁠

He was at our house, asked what I do, and I said health and fitness. ⁠

Then he told me he'd been trying to improve his eating for a while...⁠

"I just haven't found the right diet yet." ⁠

It took everything in me not to launch into a full coaching session right there. 🤣⁠

Because here's the thing: you're not struggling with nutrition because you haven't found the right diet.⁠

Diets are temporary. ⁠

This past week absolutely wrecked me.

• I had a 28-hour travel day
• Got diverted from DFW to Little Rock at 8pm with every restaurant closed and minimals snacks
• Slept for 4 hours in a hotel 20 miles from the airport
• Finally got to KY and had graduation all day for my niece and nephew
• Plus back-to-back family obligations the next day

My sleep sucked, my food situation was wacky and I didn’t see the inside of a gym for five days. 😩

This is where most people struggle.

When something throws a wrench in their plans, they abandon their health habits entirely.

(I used to do this, too!)

But now instead of saying “I can’t,” I ask, “what CAN I do?”

And it looked like this:

✅️ I walked every airport terminal I could
✅️ I grabbed Core Power, Greek yogurt, nuts, and jerky at the airport
✅️ I ate a Chili’s omelet with half the sausage and cheese scraped off
✅️ I walked to graduation, to lunch, to a coffee shop, and walked back.
✅️ I ordered what I actually wanted at restaurants and split it or took half home
✅️ I used my walking pad when I couldn’t get outside

Was any of it perfect? Oh hell no!

But I did what I could and I didn’t wait until Monday to "get back on track."

This isn’t about being better than anyone else or being “so disciplined.”

It’s a set of skills I’ve built over time.

Skills for making smart choices in the context of real, busy, chaotic life — because life is always going to throw wrenches.
