I hear you! We hear you! YOGArithm is a place where yoga is still yoga. It’s not hot. It’s not a boot camp. We have nothing to prove to anyone. And PS we have always been the 45 minute class studio 🙌

If you’ve got decades of Yoga practice & life behind you, does it make sense to share it through a lens shaped by people half your age?

Being online has meant learning a whole new language

Hooks
Retention
Attention
13 sec reels

Lots of what I’ve learnt has come from people much younger than me

But at some point I started questioning whose way of communicating I’d adopted

And how one generation’s way of consuming things somehow became the default for everyone

Before Yoga I worked in music

Record shops. Acid House
Albums you listened to from beginning to end
Festivals where you arranged a time & place because nobody had a phone (joe bananas front-left)

We didn’t follow the established route then either
We turned disused spaces into dancefloors
Put people who weren’t supposed to be together under one roof
Made our own rules

Then watched the rules change around us

Then Yoga

90–120 minute classes were normal
Workshops took a day
You stayed with a teacher

Nobody called it slow
It was just how long things took

Now a 45-minute Yoga class isn’t ‘express’
It’s a class

90 minutes is an ‘extended class’

Sometimes I’d LOVE 3 minutes to share something here
Not 13 seconds

Because without context, the teaching is lost

Does every practice need a shortcut or fast-track option?
When did taking time become the long way round?

I’m not against short content
Sometimes 30 seconds is better than 3 minutes

Learning how this world works has made me more conscious of what I’m saying, how I’m saying it & whether it’s worth listening to

I’m nearly (level) 50
I’m not going backwards
And I’m not sitting this one out

But I don’t want the format deciding how I share something I’ve spent more than 20 years learning
I don’t think we need to follow every rule just because it’s become the rule

We didn’t in music
We made our own room
And the rules changed

So I’ll take what works

Give things context when they need context
Give things time when they take time

If you’re Gen X, practising & teaching Yoga, sharing content & still learning & still curious about what you’re capable of, stick around

I’m figuring out how to do this in a way that feels like us 🙌
