What are we doing, America?
Sweets aren’t breakfast.
Sugary cereal. Flavored oatmeal. Pastries. Toaster Strudels. Donuts. Frozen waffles. Granola bars. And yes… avocado bread. 🙄
We’ve normalized starting the day with highly processed, carb-heavy foods—often loaded with added sugar and very little protein—and then wonder why our bodies aren’t performing the way we want them to.
We send kids to school after a breakfast like this and expect them to focus, learn, regulate their emotions, and sit still for hours.
We start OUR day this way and wonder why we’re hungry again two hours later, reaching for more coffee, fighting brain fog, or crashing in the afternoon.
This isn’t about never eating a donut or having something sweet.
It’s about what we’ve normalized as an everyday breakfast.
And yes—Big Food plays a role.
Food companies make enormous profits by creating, marketing, and normalizing ultra-processed foods as convenient everyday staples. Meanwhile, our healthcare system bears the enormous cost of obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other metabolic diseases.
Those diseases aren’t simply “given” to us by nature. Our daily habits—including what we eat—can significantly affect our risk.
This picture is a perfect example of how marketing can influence what we believe is a normal or healthy choice.
Feed yourself. Feed your kids. Don’t just give them something to eat.
Do better, America.
And Kroger… you can do better too.
