“What are you going to do without me?”

That may be the most important line in this entire post.

Because sometimes the greatest barrier to ending a marriage that's become unhealthy isn’t deciding to leave. It’s figuring out how two people who built one financial life can move forward without fear-driven conflict to build two.

That’s one of the things mediation helps solve.

When both people are willing to come to the table, we can work through the house, the debt, the income, the parenting responsibilities, the expenses and all of the practical questions that can make divorce feel impossible. (Even if you really don't like each other, because this IS divorce after all and mediation IS dispute resolution.)

Not as leverage or punishment. As problems that need solutions.

You may not know yet how two households can work.

You don’t have to.

That’s what the table is for.

Come to the table. Divorce without the fight. Submit an inquiry online today at the link in bio.

I used to believe she wouldn’t really leave. We had four kids, a house, bills, cars and an entire life together. Somewhere inside of me I thought, What are you going to do without me? But what I couldn’t see then was how much of my own unresolved pain I was making her carry. My abandonment. My rejection. My inadequacy. My fear of not being enough. Instead of owning those wounds, I blamed her for how I felt. And when she couldn’t make those feelings go away, they came out as fighting, controlling, gaslighting, defensiveness and anger. I kept trying to prove I was right instead of asking why the woman I loved was hurting. I confused being needed with being loved.

Then she left. Four kids. A marriage. A whole life together. And suddenly everything I thought would keep her there meant nothing. Money couldn’t make her feel loved. A house couldn’t erase years of hurt. Being a provider didn’t automatically make me a good husband. And I couldn’t argue her into trusting me again. I couldn’t guilt her into coming home. I couldn’t keep pointing at everything I had done for our family while refusing to look at what I had done to our relationship. At some point I had to stop trying to fix her, stop trying to save us, and finally ask what needed to change in me.

That separation became one of the hardest mirrors I have ever looked into. Underneath the controlling grown man was an abandoned little boy terrified of being left again. I had to feel the rejection, loneliness, shame, inadequacy and grief I had spent most of my life running from. I had to learn that love isn’t ownership. Providing doesn’t purchase loyalty. And someone staying because they feel trapped is not the same as someone choosing you because they feel loved. My wife eventually chose me again, but not because I convinced her she couldn’t live without me. She chose me after I finally started becoming a man she could live with.

I am BESIDE MYSELF!! IT’S OFFICIALLY Official!!! 🎉❤️

Bridges by Starting Over Stronger, Inc. is officially a 501(c)(3) nonprofit!

Holy crap. This is happening.

This has been a vision of mine for as long as I can remember -- bridging the gap between domestic violence and being able to afford to leave a psychologically and financially destructive relationship on your own terms -- a gap I truly never thought I could make happen.

And then earlier this year it finally hit me...

Of course I can’t make it happen alone. It’s bigger than me. There is a massive need for these services.

So I started talking about it. And people started saying YES, Absolutely, how can I help? Attorneys, financial advisors, coaches, Realtors, friends, former clients, soany people just GET IT... people who see the same enormous need and want to help.

And now we have a board. (Thank you Stephanie Summers Culver Aleesa Lennon and Tanya Doss Peterson !) We meet every week. We are continuing to connect with more and more people in the nonprofit community and the feedback has been incredible. People see the need and know it is not being met. People are giving their time and talents. We are planning BIG things.

And today the letter came.
We’re official. ❤️

Launch party 11/11, because obviously, if you know me, you know i.love synchronicities . ✨

LET THE FUN-DRAISING BEGIN!!! I'm here if you want to talk about how to be a part. 💚

Your home may be one of the most emotional decisions you make during divorce.

**That’s exactly why it shouldn’t be an emotional decision.**

“I have to keep the house.”
“I just want out.”
“The kids need to stay here.”
“I could never afford it on my own.”

Maybe. But before you decide, **get the facts.**

What is the home actually worth? How much equity is there? What would selling really net you? Can you realistically afford to keep it? What other options might you have?

The goal isn’t to take emotion out of divorce. That’s impossible.

It’s to make sure emotion doesn’t make a major financial decision **before you have the information you need.**

Get the facts. Then make the decision.

As I watched this little peace lily come back to life, I immediately thought of my clients.

I wish I could take a picture of each person when they first walk through my door, and then keep taking pictures throughout the next year as they transform through and after their divorces.

Because I would love to put them all together in a time-lapse and let them see themselves blooming the way I get to see them.

The person who arrives overwhelmed, uncertain, exhausted, sometimes barely recognizing themselves anymore...

slowly beginning to stand a little taller.

Finding their voice.

Making decisions they didn't think they could make.

Learning to trust themselves again.

Building a life that feels like their own.

Becoming.

It doesn't happen in 24 seconds like this beautiful little plant. Sometimes the changes are so gradual that you don't even realize they're happening.

You just keep watering the person you're becoming.

And then one day, you look back and realize...

you aren't wilted anymore. ❤️

Getting all settled into my new office and feeling so grateful. 💙

I’m already working with so many new clients who are choosing a better way to divorce. A way that can cost less, create less conflict, and keep more of the decision-making in their own hands.

This little space is quickly becoming a place for hard conversations, thoughtful decisions, new beginnings and, most importantly, starting over stronger.

I’m so excited for all that is to come. ⚓️
