I just emerged from 10 days of silence in the Southern California desert.
The practice is called a dieta. Nature immersion, silent meditation, plant medicine, deep reset.
I’ll be honest: I was scared going in. Not of the plant medicine. I’ve been sitting with ayahuasca for over a decade.
What scared me was the silence. The boredom.
Going days without the stimulus my nervous system expected.
No phone. No conversations. No dopamine.
By day three something shifted.
Long walks. Hours of journaling. Music started coming through. When the creative process got uncomfortable, there was no escape route. I had to stay in it. Found songs I wouldn’t have found any other way.
By the end I was sad to leave. The first real conversation felt overwhelming. I was already missing the wind.
What I learned: most of us are running on a fraction of our sensory capacity. We get so hyper-intellectual we surrender intuition. Hijacked by constant input.
Nature immersion is not a luxury. Silence is not optional. We are our environment, and when we box ourselves in, we deteriorate.
The world didn’t burn down while I was gone. My business didn’t fold.
Nothing was actually on fire.

I challenge you: one hour this week. No phone. Outside. No agenda. See what comes up.
