If you live in the Tetons or are into the history of extreme skiing, you’ll recognize the smile above! For everyone else, this is Bill Briggs, and 55 years ago yesterday, he became the first person to ski from the top of Grand Teton!

In doing a little digging into early mountaineers who wore Limmer boots, we were able to find Bill’s tracings in October and connect with him in Jackson at Rod Newcomb’s memorial service back in December.

Bill said he “went to Peter Limmer & Sons to be sized for his boots in 1957, when he was 26 years old, and that they were for climbing and skiing in the Tetons and Canada.”

“The shop was in an old barn and Peter Limmer designed boots to be the size right size, almost everyone in the Dartmouth Mountaineering Club wore his boots.”

“Peter told me that he liked ‘Whiskey,’ because it was like… ‘WE SKI!!!’ He was a very jovial type of guy, and nice to work with him on several pairs of boots.”

“My family knew the Bass family, who had helped me get into skiing Sugarloaf , but I needed boots and Peter Limmer made the best, he was the only bootmaker I knew personally.”

“Also, I could not afford two boots, only one pair, he cut a groove in the heel for my ski bindings, what I needed. I got them just before guiding with Exum Guides and they lasted for 10-12 years, with very heavy use.”

“Barry, Bob, Al, Sterling, Jake, Willie, all the guys wore them.”

Last week at Peter Limmer & Sons, Jed Williamson helped us pull a handful of those names and a few other Exum Guides out of the archives. More on what we found, also more on Bill’s 1958 Bugaboo Purcell-Selkirk Traverse with Bob French, Barry Corbet, and Sterling Neal, who were according to Bill, “all wearing Peter Limmer boots.”

Read more about his ski and music adventures, he’s incredible all around! Happy 55th GT Anniversary, Bill!

Just back from making stock boots with our friends at Meindl, and thought to share a few of our friends who make sure that the stock boots the best available!

This is Bojan and Elisabeth, their combined time at Meindl is almost 60 years. They make our glued in arch support / heel pads. Limmer boots were designed with no moving pieces because, well if there are moving pieces in a boot or shoe, the foot may be moving as well, yikes!

Thanks to the entire team, and both of you for all you have done to make great boots at Meindl over the years, and for Limmer as well!
