Talking with the guys this morning and I was asked what is the difference between high school kids now and when we played and what was one of my biggest accomplishments in highschool?

My answers were simple and surprising my friends thought, but I answered the best I could and the conversation went on for 2hrs. I wish we could have recorded it.

MY 1st answer - To me the main difference is they don't love the sport like we did. Winning was everything to us and we did everything we could to win and I'm not talking about in practice I'm talking about all day. I remember at lunch the LB would watch film and come up with checks and right after practice the QB would ask to run routes against the coverages we were going to see.With the things these kids have in the palm of their hands is crazy..and yet it's pulling teeth to get them to better their craft. I must admit that doing extra and hanging with your teammates In turn we became a family, which I think was lost in athletics some where down the line.

My second answer was not being all American or any of the many awards, it was that I'm proud that I never missed a football game in 4 years, a basketball game in 3 years and track meet in 4 years. If I was supposed to play, I played because it was important to me that my teammates knew I would always be there. Now kids train just to say they train to post on social media which in itself is a joke.. and miss games from injuries that are 90% preventable if they trained correctly especially as an young athlete But they train for likes not the love...
