The U.S. Forest Service has launched its new National Forests and Grasslands app, bringing maps, recreation information, alerts, and offline navigation into one place.

We tested it in Arkansas and found plenty to like, but also some frustrations. Searching for popular destinations like Lake Sylvia Recreation Area proved surprisingly difficult, and the app's map-first design can make finding trailheads a challenge.

Is this the future of exploring our public lands, or does it need more trail work?

Remember the Arkansas River Canoe & Kayak Race?

This was one of Central Arkansas's most unique paddling events, bringing together racers, recreational paddlers, and outdoor enthusiasts on the Arkansas River in downtown Little Rock.

Looking back at these photos has us wondering, could this event make a comeback? With today's growing paddling community, we'd love to see it return.

Did you ever participate, volunteer, or cheer from the shore? Share your memories in the comments.
