The Grand Prairie Parks, Arts and Recreation Department opened the doors to the newest addition to the city, The Summit, on May 24, 2010. The $23 million dollar, 60,000 square foot facility located in Grand Central is designed specifically for active adults ages 50 and older. With state-of-the art fitness areas, gym, indoor infinity edge pool with lap lanes & exercise vortex, locker rooms with a sauna, cafe, theater, and ballrooms with gorgeous lake views.

A day well spent with the ones who make every day a little more special. 💙

We had a blast celebrating Grandparents Day at The Summit with a showing of Toy Story 5, complete with hot dogs, drinks and snacks, followed by some family time in the pool.

A fun day, lots of smiles and plenty of memories made together. 🙂

❤️ Heads up, Grand Prairie! 💙 In observance of Labor Day, City of Grand Prairie administrative offices and recreation centers will be closed Monday, Sept. 7.

All recreation centers will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 8, with normal hours.

Today's Parks and Recreation Month highlight is Gisselle Vargas. 💚

Gisselle Vargas serves as the aquatics coordinator at The Summit, the Parks, Arts & Recreation department's 50+ club.

Her primary responsibilities include hiring, training, and scheduling all lifeguards for the facility, as well as organizing the schedule and coordinating all programming for the pool.

In addition, she helps ensure that the pools are in the best shape for the members through monitoring the pool chemistry and all mechanical operations in the pump area.

She excels at creating relationships and providing excellent service to both the members and staff.
