Our best NSSF—The Fi***rm Industry Trade Association yet today! Thank you to all who came out. Seeing the little ones have fun was definitely a highlight. Kudos also to Don for setting up early, as that was a huge help.

Non-members, of course, please feel free to join the ACSHA; accessible ranges are literally drying up, and we need them to keep our rights-practice in effect. And of course, to anyone, please feel free to refer non-members who want to enjoy their 2A rights to join the ACSHA. Many training options are on the near-horizon, and knowledge/training are part of what makes the 2A so important.

While the .22 Long R***e wasn't the first self-contained metallic cartridge, it's one of the oldest rounds in existence, and it remains popular today.

As we posted two safety tips today, this is a brief mention that we will have an NRA RSO class in September to offer (see FB events, pre-registration is required, details to be updated shortly in FB events). But there are other versions of RSO training out there as well, as everyone who is on the range is an RSO in spirit, if not without actual certification. Improper behavior on the range can best be mitigated in the moment; anything after the fact is reactionary, and thus based on hindsight and useless if something negative happened. Remember, you don't get a second chance with a negligent discharge.

Safety consciousness has to be 'cool'; not just assumed, but a natural extension of what we do. The next time you are at the range, please make sure that you start your session with a safety briefing (which includes safe shooting direction, trigger discipline, observing the NRA/USCCA gun safety rules, command understanding, malfunction review i.e. squib/misfire/hangfire, eye/ear protection, and post hygiene), a review of range etiquette (commands, flagging, awareness of berms/barriers/safe direction, proper am******on for the range, etc), and post-range clean-up or close out.

The CMP (https://thecmp.org/training-tech/range-officer-training-course/) offers an online RSO class, as does the USCCA (https://store.usconcealedcarry.com/education/digital-training-courses/uscca-range-safety-officer-elearning-course-rso-ece0720008/). We will have a much-boosted USCCA presence in the weeks ahead, so expect some interesting activity from them But regardless of where you do your RSO training, it just makes sense to take a course, and it just makes sense that it helps both the participant and those that they participate with.

If you own a fi***rm, then it's a given to consider adding to the training and knoweledgebase of owning it. More than ever, we need to protect our 2A rights, and the supporting knowledge of why those rights are so important is essential to owning a fi***rm.

Please feel free to post your thoughts on safety, safety culture, range etiquette, and anything else you feel should be mentioned here. 2A minded folks are the backbone of this nation; that is a statement that transcends many things. We need to look out for one another, and to ensure that we foster not just an awareness of basic rights, history, principles, and talking points, but basic fundamental behavior at the range.

Safety Tip: new signage is now up to help with range etiquette. As mentioned in a post a while back, certain rounds can damage and erode the range. For example, the middle bay is for traditional pistol/revolver chamberings, and not for AR pistols in what are the traditional r***e calibers (i.e., an AR pistol is a pistol, but an AR pistol in 5.56mm is NOT for the middle bay). Sh***un rounds cannot be used in the shoot house, as one discharge alone makes holes that quickly breakdown the walls. We've touched recently on how green-tip and steel-core rounds punch through the steel targets on the r***e range.

The use of incorrect am******on causes many problems, and it makes for more costs in range maintenance and creates more safety concerns. Please share with your fellow shooters to help make the range a safer and longer-lasting facility. We want all our members to enjoy the range as much as possible.

Safety Tip: please do NOT dump brass into the crash cans. Aside from the fact that we have a can set out for brass collection (blue can on the middle bay) for those that choose to collect and drop their brass, it is too easy to dump a live round into the burn barrels, and THAT'S a hazard for the person who happens to burn the trash. There is more than a few of us who have burned trash and heard a live round go off. That could easily hurt/kill a person, or put a hole in a vehicle or something else. Brass clearly doesn't burn, so it just adds to the debris that is eventually removed from the burn barrel. The brass pictured was in a barrel yesterday by the r***e range, and it should have been either taken home or dumped in the blue brass recycle can.

We currently have one member who is donating three bins of brass, of which this brass will be recycled. There is clearly much brass just on the grounds, and one day we may have some 'range chickens' to help pick up the casings, but any unwanted brass can easily be dumped into the blue can pictured, or one of the future cans to be placed near each area. Recycled brass can help to generate a few dollars to go towards range maintenance, and its less debris in the environment. Please share with your fellow shooters where you can, as more folks helping goes a long way in maintaining the range.
