‼️MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT‼️

There will be a meeting on Friday January 31st at 6:00 PM at Quick Release Bicycles (unless RSVP numbers require a larger venue)

The purpose of this meeting will be to provide updates on the club, election of board members, and updates about Michaux State Forest DCNR projects.

All are welcome to attend, including those who have never been a part of MBM but would like to learn more about the club. Pizza will be provided, BYO beverage & chair if possible.

Help prevent wildfires! Due to dry conditions and lack of rain, no campfires are allowed in Michaux State Forest until further notice. This includes campfires on leased campsites.

Spongy moth, Lymantria dispar, is a serious forest pest and is responsible for killing millions of trees (oak and other species) across the state. The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Forestry, will be conducting a Spongy Moth suppression project in portions of Michaux State Forest during the first week of May. Treatment will be made with Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) (a natural biological insecticide) and Tebufenozide (an insect growth regulator). Both treatments have no known adverse effects on human health or environmental impacts. The insecticide(s) will be applied by aircraft flying approximately 50 feet above the treetops.

What does the color of trail blazes mean? The blazes of trails in Michaux State Forest indicate the type of recreation permitted on the trail.
See a trail without a blaze? This might be an undesignated trail created by other forest users. These trails may end abruptly or go through sensitive wildlife habitats. To learn more about our designated trails, check out our public use map -> https://bit.ly/MSFPublicUse

See a white blaze? The Appalachian Trail (hiking only) also runs through Michaux State Forest and is blazed white.

March through May is wildfire season in Pennsylvania. This year, due to unseasonable weather conditions, we have already had wildfires in February. To help prevent wildfires, campfires and open burning are not allowed in Michaux State Forest starting today, March 1 through May 25.

Looking for something to do this weekend? How about coming out to help with a DCNR & Friends of Michaux State Forest trail work day Saturday?! Details from the FoM below:

A Friends of Michaux State Forest work trip is scheduled on Camps Trail in Michaux SF.
Date: Saturday, Feb. 25th
Time: meet at 8:45 a.m.; work from 9-12
Location: meet at Long Pine Run Reservoir parking lot
GPS: 39.9321237,-77.4533999
Goals: clear trail of debris and prune
Tools Needed: Hand saws & loppers (Friends group will have loppers if needed)
Other: Hi-vis orange attire, work gloves, sturdy shoes, helmet/hard hat (recommend), safety glasses, water, and snacks.
Notes: Participants should be 18 years and older for this work trip. The terrain is fairly rocky with rolling elevation changes. Participants can expect to walk at least 2-3 miles during the work trip. Work level will be strenuous.
