What’s the old saying? “The couple that pins together stays together?” Or something.

Here’s our Jessie Combs getting her number pinned by our Colin Lodl. And that’s not a euphemism: Jessie went on to win the women’s 3/4/5 race at the ONE Cycling Series Papillion Twilight Criterium. Thanks to Chris for the candid shot, as well as Trek Omaha Midtown SRAM Road Bergman and Chesterman Co. for all the support.

Promoting and staging a bike race is incredibly challenging. Securing permits, setting up logistics, alerting neighbors, closing streets, contracting vendors, and managing competition all combine to consume thousands of hours of labor and dollars.

We are so impressed and grateful for the Omaha Sports Commission, City of Papillion - Municipal Government, USA Cycling for their work on the AKSARBEN TIRC and Papillion Twilight Criteriums, which formed the ONE Cycling Series.

We staffed the neutral race support both days, with help from Ponderosa Cycling and The Bike Way. We saw first-hand how hard everyone worked to put on a great event for regional and national racers. We got to race great courses in front of fun crowds. And we heard lots of positive feedback from riders.

There are always lessons to learn, but we really hope Omaha continues to support the event, which will only grow as word spreads about our cycling community.

Thanks, as well, to Omaha Velo and Enhance Cycling P/B Nebraska Medicine for continuing the Tuesday Night Criteriums at Baxter Arena, which gave lots of riders a reason to keep racing on the road.
