"Slaughter the Ox”

When God calls us to something, he asks us to drop everything that hinders us from Him, and follow faithfully, without turning back.  Following Elijah to be the next prophet of Israel cost Elisha everything.  His sacrifice of the oxen, and the burning of his yoke and plow made it so he could not go back to his old life.  Unwavering sacrifice.  Ultimate resolve.

Receiving a “Slaughter the Ox” shirt signifies one’s commitment to pursuing excellence in the service of others, no matter the cost. The honor has nothing to do with talent or ability.  It is a representation of unrelenting effort, a consistent desire to humbly improve, and unwavering passion to help everyone they encounter to achieve their God-given potential.  It is an honor that is not to be taken lightly, as those who receive it are looked at to uphold a standard of excellence in effort, humility, and character.

In her time at Resolute, Rheid has displayed a relentless work ethic that has become contagious to her peers. She is quick to encourage others and be there to help. She has grown tremendously in her ability to recognize effort being more important than achievement, and has committed herself to the process of being her best daily. We are humbled by her desire to grow on a daily basis. She is a light of joy and competitive spirit at Resolute. We wouldn't be the same without her.

“So he [Elijah] departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and cast his cloak upon him. And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?” And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him.”

In his time at Resolute, Eli has displayed a consistent desire to improve himself physically, mentally, and spiritually. He is focused on the task at hand and engages his peers at a high level in an effort to bring out the best in them. Eli faced a great deal of uncertainty and obstacles this school year, but hasn't shyed away from difficulty. He has pressed into challenges and found improvement through the hard times. In all cases, his journey continues for a cause greater than himself. Resolute is better because Eli upholds a high standard of consistency.
