Cycle North Carolina

Cycle North Carolina Organized and fully supported bicycle tours in the state of North Carolina. In 2004, CNC introduced it's first 3-day Spring Ride held annually in April.

In 1997, North Carolina Amateur Sports, the North Carolina Division of Tourism, the North Carolina Department of Transportation and Capitol Broadcasting Company discussed the idea of starting a fully supported cross-state bicycle tour in North Carolina. Two years later in 1999, the Cycle North Carolina "Mountains to Coast" fall ride began its inaugural trek across the State of North Carolina. Sinc

e then, CNC has attracted participants from all 50 States and 8+ Countries, stopped overnight in more than 100 North Carolina towns, traveled more than 7,000 miles on the scenic back roads of the state and passed through more than 670 North Carolina communities. Cycle North Carolina has been voted "Best Biking in America" by the League of American Bicyclists and selected as one of the best events in the United States. This event offers 1, 2 or 3 days of cycling with various mileages to suite all ages and skill levels. All routes are loop rides and fully supported with rest stops, bike mechanics and event support vehicles. The event has been renamed the Coastal Ride. In 2014, CNC introduced the first Mountain Ride, held in August annually. The format mirrors the Coastal Ride, offering loop rides, rest stops, bike mechanics and event support vehicles. Cycle North Carolina is hosted by North Carolina Amateur Sports, a 501 (c)3 non-profit charitable organization.

Back in 2014, our century riders made a stop at Sylvan Heights Bird Park in Scotland Neck and this year’s century riders will be doing the same! 🚴‍♂️

Sylvan Heights will once again serve as a special Century Rest Stop on the 2026 Mountains to Coast Ride, giving riders the chance to experience one of the most unique stops along the route. The park is home to breeding populations of some of the world’s rarest waterfowl, with collaborative captive breeding programs playing an important role in helping protect these species from extinction.

Take a look back at some of our favorite photos from our visit in 2014 as we get ready to return to this incredible spot! It will definitely be a place you’ll want to come back to, especially after October 18, when Penguin Point opens, featuring African penguins, also known as Cape, Black-footed or “Jackass” penguins thanks to their loud, braying calls! 🐧😂

Not only will riders have the chance to stop by Timber Waters Brewing Co. as we make our way from Henderson to Weldon but they’ll also be our featured brewery during our Cycle NC Happy Hour in both Henderson and Weldon! 🍺

Proudly brewing in Littleton, NC, Timber Waters is all about great b**r, local ingredients and community. As a brewery with purpose, all net proceeds from operations directly support education in the community through Littleton Academy. And the kids you see in the video? They’re students from Littleton Academy! ❤️

We’re excited to support a brewery that’s making such a positive impact in its community while giving our riders another great stop to look forward to along the route! 🍻🚲

Our second rest stop as we make our way from Eden to Hillsborough on Day 2 of this year's Mountains to Coast Ride will be at the Simmons Farm Museum, a place that celebrates North Carolina’s rural roots and farming heritage.

Riders can look forward to a chance to refuel while taking in antique tractors, vintage tools, a restored 1945 general store, and plenty of local history. It’s part rest stop, part trip through the past! 🌾 🚜

We had some great meetings in Edenton today talking about all of the things for both this year’s Mountains to Coast Ride overnight stop AND the 2027 Coastal Ride!

There’s a lot to look forward to, including waterfront camping, new restaurants opening downtown (just steps from camp!), and some fun activities planned around town.

For our Mountains to Coast riders, we’re especially excited about a trivia night with dessert and a grab 'n go breakfast to help fuel everyone for the next day’s miles. 🚴‍♀️ 🍰 ☕️

And don’t forget, there is a playground right near camp as well but it’s strictly for those who are actually 12 and under... not 12 and under at heart. 😂 We know some of you are going to test that rule.

Last time we rolled through Mount Airy, our bus driver somehow ended up behind bars! 😂 Thankfully, it was all in good fun at the Mayberry Jail Replica.

Mount Airy is the hometown of Andy Griffith and the inspiration behind the beloved town of Mayberry. From the courthouse and jail to the familiar sights that inspired The Andy Griffith Show, there’s plenty of nostalgia around every corner.

We can’t wait to be back in Mayberry for the start of this year’s Mountains to Coast Ride!

One week ago today, we were kicking off the 2026 Cycle NC Mountain Ride! What an incredible weekend it turned out to be. More than 350 riders from 23 different states joined us to experience some of the very best cycling Western North Carolina has to offer.

From unforgettable miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway and the leg-burning climb to Jump Off Rock, to rolling along the Brevard Greenway and the Ecusta Trail, every day delivered incredible scenery and unforgettable riding. We even kicked off the weekend with a Friday warm-up ride that doubled as a brewery tour, giving riders the perfect excuse to spin through town and enjoy stops at several fantastic local breweries. 🍻

To everyone who rode with us, volunteered, and hosted us, thank you for making this year's Mountain Ride one to remember. We can't wait to do it all again next year!

We're excited to announce that Edenton will host the 2027 Coastal Ride from April 30–May 2, 2027 and registration is officially OPEN!

With its scenic waterfront, historic charm, quiet country roads, and beautiful coastal landscapes, Edenton is the perfect home base for a weekend on two wheels. We can't wait to return to one of North Carolina's most charming small towns for three days of incredible riding, great company, and everything that makes Coastal Ride such a special event.

Dinner is served! 🍽️🚴

After a full day of climbing, coasting, and taking in some incredible mountain views, our riders have earned a chance to kick back and rest those legs.

Tonight's Mountain Ride Social is the perfect place to swap stories from today's adventure, compare favorite climbs (or least favorite 😅), catch up with new friends, and start making plans for tomorrow's route.

Good food, great company, and another day of riding to look forward to - it's hard to beat that!
