Some rams are special because of their size. Others are special because of the story it took to find them.
This is “Paddles,” a truly unique Stone Sheep from Northern BC.
BC resident Trent Woloschuk had watched this ram for a few days late last season, but like so many sheep hunts, there were no guarantees he would ever see him again. Somehow, this year the mountains gave him another opportunity.
Fast forward to 2026, for two days, Trent and his hunting partner sat on Paddles, watching and waiting. On the second day, the ram began feeding his way down the mountain — from 1,080 yards to 287 yards — eventually giving Trent the opportunity he had been waiting for.
The shot was made from 7,087 feet, after a hunt that was as mentally demanding as it was physically grueling.
But what makes a hunt like this even more memorable is the people you share it with. The friendships built in the mountains, the long days glassing, the uncertainty, the conversations and the shared excitement when everything finally comes together — those are the parts of sheep hunting that stay with you long after the pack is back home.
And then there is the ram itself.
Paddles is a unique, impressive Stone Sheep with growth that immediately sets him apart. A ram that was recognized, remembered and ultimately found again a season later. That kind of history makes the accomplishment that much more meaningful.
The hunt took place in the Toad River/Muncho Lake area of Northern BC, in rugged country that demands good preparation, good equipment and even better company.
A remarkable ram, a hard-earned hunt, good friends and a story that started one season before the trigger was ever pulled.
Trent’s noted his KUIU system is into its 3rd season of mountain hunts and is still going strong!
