Congratulations to Belle Cotton, Class of 2028 PIN from Assumption High School, on her commitment to NCAA Division II Grand Valley State University!

Belle has grown up in the Iowa Select gym. She started in the very first year of our Youth Program with Coach Kelly Kelley in 2018 and 2019, then played on 11 Mizuno as a 10U athlete, 12 Mizuno with Coach Greg Cotton, 12 Mizuno again with Coach Amy Blommer, 13 and 14 Mizuno with Greg Cotton and Liesl Fowler, 15 Mizuno with Liesl Fowler and Jaimie Caffery, and 16 Mizuno with Jason Caffery and Ellie Mitton. This season she’ll take the court with 17 Mizuno under Alex Humphrey and Robby Hoffman.

Over those years, Belle has transformed her game into one of the top in the area — a product of great coaching, a lot of hard work both in the gym and in the weight room, and a player who has always treated everyone around her with respect and is someone who has always been known to lift up her teammates in times of adversity and celebrate them during the moments of success.

We’re thrilled she’s found her dream school, and the best part? We get to watch her compete in the Factory for two more years. Congrats, Belle — future Laker!

There are some losses that leave a silence behind that words simply cannot fill.

Our Iowa Select family is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Mark Fowler, a beloved husband, father, and a quiet but incredibly important part of our volleyball family.

The Fowler family has been woven into the fabric of our club for so many years. Karin spent six years playing with our club and continues to give back by helping coach whenever she is home from college. Jackson has been both a player, an intern and a coach with Iowa Select. And Liesl…well, she's the glue that holds so much of our club together. She coaches, mentors, leads with kindness, and has always been our club mom...the one who somehow has everything from uncrustables to a hotel towel, scissors, and bandaids in her bag or stored in her 5 piece luggage set! She has poured so much of herself into the athletes and families around her.

And then there was Mark.

He was often behind the scenes, but his presence was always felt. He was the supportive volleyball dad and husband who watched his family play, coach, travel, and give their hearts to this sport.

Mark had a way of reminding us all to keep things in perspective. When the pressure or emotions of the game got too big, he was quick to remind us, “It’s just volleyball.” And if you knew Mark, you probably also knew one of his least favorite game strategies was the short serve.

Those little things are what we will remember - his perspective, support, humor and his smile.

Our hearts are absolutely broken for Liesl, Karin, Jackson and Ian, and the entire Fowler family. We know there are no words that can make this loss easier, but we hope they feel surrounded by the love of the Iowa Select family and by the countless people whose lives Mark and the Fowler family have touched.

Please keep the Fowler family in your hearts, thoughts, and prayers as they navigate the unimaginable loss of their husband and father.

Mark may have been behind the scenes, but he was always part of our Iowa Select family. We will miss him dearly. ❤️
