Most treatment programs and sober living houses use a 10-panel urine drug screen.

That means they are testing for drugs like:
Opioids, co***ne, amphetamines, methamphetamine, barbituates, THC, P*P, and Benzodiazepines.

And while those are some of the “main offenders,” there are plenty of other substances that are mind altering, habit forming, and don’t show up on standard drug trusts.

Many of them also happen to be cheap, legal, and easier for the addicted brain to rationalize.

As parents, you should be aware of these workarounds.

That’s why I made my latest free guide:

“The Loophole Buzz: 12 Substances Addicts Commonly Use to Get High While Passing Drug Tests.”

🏆🏆 The double wins are the best!

1. Win for his sobriety
2. Win for their relationship
(In this case, the second win is HUGE)

🥳🎉👏 I absolutely love it when the hard work pays off for the amazing parents I get to coach!

Sometimes the newly sober brain asks questions like:

“Do I really want to be in recovery?”

“How could I possibly live the rest of my life without a drink of alcohol?”

“Am I really an addict or can I maybe control it again one day?”

And sometimes, unbeknownst to others around them, the newly sober brain asks:

“What can I use to get high right now without getting caught?”

That’s when people start experimenting with things like over-the-counter medications, supplements, inhalants, and other substances that don’t show up on drug tests.

Parents who don’t know about these technicalities can get completely blindsided.

That’s why later this week I’m dropping a new guide called:

“The Loophole Buzz: 12 Substances Addicts Commonly Use to Get High While Passing Drug Tests.”

Because a clean drug test doesn’t always tell the whole story.

📢 Pro Tip:

Define your "non-negotiables" when you're calm and able to think clearly.

Then, when addiction pulls you toward enabling, use your "non-negotiables" as protection.

Many parents are taught that the only alternative to “enabling” is to "detach."

Which is exactly why so many parents stay stuck.

Because deep down, they’re (understandably) thinking:

“I can’t abandon my child!”

And they’re right.

💜 Addicts and alcoholics need connection and support.

They don’t need extreme, harsh detachment from their parents.

♟️ They need help that is strategic.

There’s a massive difference between:
• jumping in out of panic
• and stepping in with structure, intention, and clear expectations

👎 One keeps addiction comfortable.
👍 The other can actually move someone closer to recovery.

Most parents have never been taught the difference.

So they swing back and forth between:

over-helping…
then feeling resentful or remorseful…
then shutting down completely…
then feeling guilty…
then over-helping again…

😔 It’s exhausting.

And honestly, it shouldn’t be surprising, either.

Because that cycle is exactly what you get when you give parents a lot of generic “tough love” advice that oversimplifies high-stakes, nuanced situations.

🧩 That’s where personalized, professional guidance comes in.

👉👉👉 So that you know with confidence that you’re strengthening your relationship with your child while disarming the disease that is trying to destroy them.

If that sounds like an approach you’d like to take, let’s talk!

How many times have you heard the word “enabling” by now?

A few?
A few thousand?

Yet how much of a difference has it actually made for you to learn the definition of the word “enabling” or to be reminded that “you shouldn’t enable”?

In my experience, it takes a LOT more than generic knowledge to actually stop enabling, especially during emotional, high-pressure moments. (Which addiction is so good at creating.)

So next week, instead of focusing on definitions and vague advice, I’m bringing you a training that will focus on practical discernment.

I’m going to teach you HOW to actually evaluate whether something is enabling or supportive in real-time, when things feel complicated and overwhelming.

I’ll be breaking down practical examples and grey areas.

And I’ll be sharing specific “filters,” questions, and tips that will help you cut through the confusion when it’s time to make decisions.

So join me on Thursday, May 21st, at 7:30pm. Streaming live within the private Facebook group, Parenting That Promotes Recovery.

If you're questioning what's real, then your child's addiction might be playing tricks on you. The more you understand about how addiction operates, the harder it becomes for the disease to survive.

Awareness is power!

If you're anything like most of the parents I've worked with throughout my career, you're probably a smart, intuitive, deeply committed person.

And yet you may still find yourself getting pulled into some very distorted thinking, and some dangerous patterns you never imagined you'd fall into.

🫨 If I'm describing you right now, there's a very simple explanation: you're way too close to the disease of addiction to be able to think straight.

That's by design. It gets in your head so that you'll make its job easier.

If these slides resonate, then this isn't something to ignore or to put off until later 🛑.

It’s something to get support around - NOW!

👣 One way to do that is to take a small but meaningful step and book a no-cost clarity call with me.

I'll help you cut through the confusion and point you toward solutions that make sense for your family. Follow the link in my bio to get on my calendar or visit www.jessicaponncoaching.com.
