Burlington County is distributing free, $40 farmers market vouchers to eligible senior citizens in the Farmer's Market Nutrition Program.

The county's Department of Human Services Office on Aging is now accepting applications from seniors. Qualifyers will immediately receive a QR code voucher redeemable for market products at any of 20 participating county farms and farmer's markets.

Last year, 960 county seniors got vouchers.

“We’ve heard from many senior citizens on fixed incomes who are struggling because of rising food prices and other expenses that make it difficult for them to obtain quality, nutritious foods,” said County Commissioner Randy Brolo, liaison to the Department of Human Services.

“The senior (voucher) program provides eligible seniors with a path to obtaining fresh, nutritious produce locally sourced from Burlington County farms.

Burlington County Animal Alliance's Adoptable Pet of the Week: Meet Lionel!

Lionel is a handsome 1-year-old, 50-pound mixed-breed boy who’s ready to find his forever family! This beautiful pup has long legs, a slender build, and striking good looks—but his foster family will tell you that pictures simply don’t do him justice.

When Lionel first came into foster care, he was a shy and nervous young dog, but he has made incredible progress and continues to gain confidence every day. With patience, encouragement, and a loving environment, he’s truly beginning to come out of his shell. He’s doing great with leash walking and is learning that the world isn’t such a scary place after all.

Lionel is potty trained, has a gentle and loving heart, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs, who help boost his confidence. He’s also fantastic with cats and doesn’t bother them at all, making him an excellent addition to a multi-pet home. Lionel is good with kids as well and enjoys being part of a family. He absolutely loves to play and cuddle with other dogs.

Because he’s still building confidence, Lionel would thrive with an adopter who understands that some dogs need a little extra time and reassurance to blossom. A securely fenced yard would be ideal for him as he continues to grow and gain confidence.

If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal companion and are willing to give this deserving boy the love and guidance he needs, Lionel may be the perfect match for you! Apply at bcaaofnj.org.
