Wildlife Along the Virginia Creeper Trail
From Abingdon to Damascus, the Virginia Creeper Trail isn’t just a ride, it’s a living, breathing ecosystem. As you cruise along, keep an eye out for:
• Red foxes slipping through the brush
• Hawks soaring high above
• Wild turkeys and white-tailed deer along the trail
• Songbirds like Indigo Buntings filling the air
• The occasional (and harmless) snake soaking up the sun
• And maybe, even if you’re lucky, a black bear in the distance
In spring, you’ll also spot Eastern Tent Caterpillar nests tucked in the trees—a small but important part of the trail’s natural cycle.
…And of course, Sasquatch is rarely spotted, but we’re not ruling it out!
This trail is more than a scenic ride; it’s home to incredible wildlife. Let’s do our part to protect it:
• Pack out what you bring in
• Give wildlife plenty of space
• Stay on the trail
Respect the trail. Enjoy the ride. Take it all in.
