Why We Love Mud Puddles at EEPS!

At Early Experiences Play School, we know that sometimes the best learning happens with muddy boots, messy hands, and big smiles.

Mud puddles may look like simple fun, but they are packed with opportunities for growth and learning!

Benefits of Mud Puddle Play:

• Builds Gross Motor Skills – Jumping, balancing, squatting, and splashing help strengthen growing muscles and coordination.

• Encourages Sensory Exploration – Mud provides rich sensory experiences that support brain development and help children explore different textures in a safe, playful way.

• Supports Creativity & Imagination – One child sees a puddle… another sees soup for the mud kitchen, dinosaur land, or a construction site!

• Teaches Problem Solving – How deep is the puddle? Can I jump over it? What happens if I mix dirt and water? Children are constantly experimenting and learning.

• Boosts Emotional Well-Being – Outdoor play and unstructured exploration can reduce stress, increase confidence, and simply bring JOY.

• Encourages Healthy Risk Taking – Learning to navigate slippery ground, uneven surfaces, and changing environments helps children build body awareness and confidence.

At EEPS, we believe childhood should be filled with wonder, exploration, and yes… sometimes muddy clothes! Because messy play is meaningful play, and some of the best memories are made splashing in puddles.

After all, childhood is short… let them jump in the puddles.

Our Special EEPS Visitor This Week!

This week, we’ve had a very special little friend joining us at EEPS…Kaila’s sweet pup, who is beginning his journey to become her future service dog!

While our amazing trainer, Carri, is out of town, this handsome boy has been spending some time with us at school learning, observing, and getting lots of safe socialization opportunities with children.

At EEPS, we know that early, positive experiences matter…not just for children, but for puppies learning how to confidently navigate the world too! From calmly resting near busy play to gently interacting with little friends, he’s getting valuable exposure to the sights, sounds, and activity of a preschool environment.

The children have absolutely loved helping him practice being calm and gentle, and he has soaked up every bit of love (and dirt, some glue, and paint).

For Kaila, this pup represents so much more than a dog. The hope is that one day he will help provide comfort, confidence, regulation, and greater independence as her service dog partner.

We are so thankful for the guidance of our incredible trainer, Carri, and excited to watch this journey unfold one paw at a time.

At what age do children usually learn to swing independently by pumping their legs?

For many children, this skill starts developing around ages 4–6, but like all childhood milestones, there is a wide range. Swinging independently takes coordination, rhythm, timing, core strength, body awareness, and confidence.

Many younger children begin by dragging their feet, kicking a little, or trying to shift their body weight before eventually “getting it.” Like many gross motor skills, practice matters.

One thing we’ve noticed at EEPS… many of our children in the 2–5-year-old classroom learn this skill earlier than expected. Why? Because they are exposed to swings almost every day, along with climbing, balancing, running, digging, lifting, pushing, and other activities that naturally strengthen core muscles and gross motor development.

Outdoor play is more than “just recess.” It builds confidence, coordination, independence, and lifelong physical skills… all while kids are simply being kids.

And yes… there is something pretty special about watching a child realize, “I’m doing it by myself!” ❤️

Sometimes, the most important thing happening is simply the smiles… the laughter… the joy of being little.

Not every moment has to look like a worksheet or a structured lesson to be meaningful. When children are happy, connected, and engaged, learning is happening naturally. They are building friendships, confidence, communication skills, problem solving abilities, creativity, and emotional security… all through play, exploration, and shared joy.

At EEPS, we believe childhood should be full of wonder, happiness, and experiences that make children excited to learn. Because sometimes the biggest learning moments are hidden inside the simplest happy memories.

A child’s work is messy… and that’s exactly how it should be.

Childhood was never meant to be neat, quiet, and spotless. Real learning looks like paint on sleeves, muddy shoes, sticky fingers, and fully immersed little humans discovering the world around them.

When children are given the freedom to explore without worrying about staying perfectly clean, they create, experiment, problem solve, and build confidence. Sensory play like this supports fine motor development, creativity, emotional regulation, and independent thinking… all while feeling like pure fun.

At EEPS, we believe childhood should be hands-on, joy-filled, and yes… wonderfully messy.

EEPS has officially upgraded to luxury preschool resort status with our exciting new “water feature” … also known as 5 gallons of water and a tiny pump that the kids think is the greatest invention of all time.

Turns out, you don’t need fancy splash pads or water parks to create magic. Just a little running water, a few curious kids, and hours of scooping, pouring, experimenting, problem-solving, teamwork, sensory play, and pure joy.

Sometimes the simplest things really are the most exciting.

To all of the amazing moms, grandmas, foster moms, bonus moms, and mother figures in our EEPS family… Happy Mother’s Day!

Thank you for the love, patience, comfort, encouragement, snack packing, bedtime tucking, tear wiping, and everything in between. The little hands we hold each day are growing because of the love poured into them at home.

We are so thankful to partner with such incredible families and to be a small part of your children’s story.

We hope your day is filled with love… and maybe even a little quiet.
