All Columbus Parks & Recreation offices, including Hamilton Center, The Commons, Circle K Fieldhouse, and Columbus Gymnastics Center will be closed today, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.

Juneteenth reminds us of the importance of community, reflection, and honoring the contributions, culture, and history of Black Americans. As we gather in our parks and public spaces, we celebrate the values of inclusion, unity, and opportunity for all.

Yesterday, something special happened in Columbus.

After a terrifying near-tragedy involving their son, the Lemonade Bros family didn’t turn inward. They turned outward, and they turned it into action. The family launched a fundraiser to collect life vests for community members who didn’t have one, and yesterday, those vests found their homes, on infants, children, and teens across our community.

We were honored to play a small part in making that distribution happen.

Water safety is something we talk about often. But the Lemonade Bros family showed us what it looks like when that message becomes personal, and then becomes a gift to everyone around you. That is community building community, and it is one of the most beautiful things we get to witness in this work.

If you see a little one sporting a new life vest this summer, you’ll know the story behind it. 🧡

Thank you, Lemonade Bros, for your courage, your generosity, and your heart for Columbus.

CHANGE TO COME OUT & PLAY PLAYGROUND PICKUP LOCATIONS

Due to lack of attendance, we will no longer be running pickup service at Morningside Park Playground for Come Out and Play

Participants can still be dropped off at Pence Street Park, Parkside Playground, or 9th Street Park for bus service, or directly at the Donner Park Shelter.

Come Out & Play is a FREE summer recreation program for kids ages 6-13, running now through July 24. We have games, activities and crafts for participants. We go to the pool on Mondays (weather permitting) and have field trips on Thursdays. Free meals are provided for all kids by BCSC through the Sun Meals program!

We are very sorry to share that we have made the decision to postpone Movies in the Park tonight due to the increased likelihood of rain and storms.

The safety and enjoyment of our participants is always our priority, as well as the safety of our movie equipment so that we can host more of these events in the future.

We will announce the new date for the screening of Zootopia 2 as soon as we schedule it.

Thank you very much for your understanding!

Come Out and Play is happening now!

Did you know that we offer a FREE recreation program all summer long (June 8 - July 24) for kids age 6-13?

Here's how it works:

You bring your child to either the Donner Park Shelter or one of our other playground pickup stations at 1:00 pm. All the children at the four pickup stations are then bused to Donner Shelter, or our Thursday field trip locations. BCSC provides FREE lunch through the Sun Meals program, and then we have supervised fun and games all afternoon until pickup at Donner or the child's local playground site around 4:45 pm. That's it! Come when you can - no registration required!

Pickup Playgrounds:
- 9th Street Park
- Morningside Playground
- Parkside Playground
- Pence Street Park

There will need to be a parent or legal guardian present to sign your child in on their first day to complete any paperwork for participation. After the first sign in, an adult has to be present to sign in and sign out the child each day.

* We will not have this program June 19, June 29-July3, or July 6.
