The day after a historic midterm election, what do nonprofit leaders do? They plan for the future.

Anne and Carolyn spent today in Illinois facilitating a strategic planning retreat with 30 staff and member agency leaders from the Illinois Association of Community Action Agencies network.

These nonprofit leaders started the day reviewing data on the state of their operating environment. From there, they set goals to build capacity, seize new opportunities, and make their organizations healthier and more effective.

It was our privilege to support their work. The communities these agencies serve are lucky to have them.

New 2026 findings from the Center for Effective Philanthropy reveal the nonprofit sector is under heavy pressure:

- 46% of nonprofit CEOs are highly concerned about their own burnout (a massive jump from 29% last year).

- 66% have concerns about their organization's overall financial stability.

Today's the day! The midterm general election is here!

These elections give voters the power to decide the direction of the country by choosing which party controls the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Here is what is on the ballot:
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲: 35 out of the 100 seats are up for election.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲: All 435 seats are on the ballot.

Did you know? The majority of nonprofits operate on less than $50,000 a year. Yet, despite their essential community work, Candid reports that these organizations receive only 0.4% of foundation funding.

The funding gap is staggering. Between 2019 and 2023:
Only 22% of very small nonprofits received grants (with most totaling less than $10,000).

Meanwhile, 72% of larger nonprofits secured grants, with some receiving single awards exceeding $1 million.

The funding gap is very real, and small nonprofits feel it every single day.
