As a coach, it is hard to ask for much more than this…

Kids spending time outside. Running around with friends. Doing hard things. Solving problems. Laughing. Getting their heart rates up. Celebrating their wins, their friends wins. Learning what they are capable of more than they thought.

That’s exactly the kind of environment we’re working to create at Sawed-Off CrossFit Kids!

A full class can go a lot of different ways. Today, it was awesome. The kids were engaged, coachable, and gave everything they had. It was such a fun group! 💜

Game: Broad Jump Relay
Divide the class into two teams and have each team line up behind a starting line.
Approximately 50 ft away, place two cones for each team:
A finish line cone that stays in place.
A relay cone positioned a few feet in front of the finish line cone.

On “Go!”, the first athlete from each team sprints to their relay cone. They pick it up, turn around, perform one broad jump, place the cone where they land, then sprint back to their team and high five the next athlete.
Each teammate repeats this pattern, moving the relay cone one broad jump closer to the starting line.
Once the relay cone reaches the starting line, the game reverses.
Now, athletes broad jump the relay cone back toward the finish line. After each broad jump, the athlete places the cone where they land, sprints to the finish line cone, runs back to their team, and high fives the next teammate.

The first team to move their relay cone all the way back to the finish line wins!

Game: Team Cone Relay
Equipment needed: 4 pairs of colored cones (2 yellow, 2 red, 2 blue, 2 green, etc.)
Poly dots for the starting line, 1 box, 1 foam roller
Create two identical lanes, spacing the colored cone pairs evenly so athletes have plenty of room to run without crossing paths. Place a box with a foam roller standing upright on top near the starting line of each lane. Mark the starting line with poly dots.

Divide the class into two equal teams and have each team line up behind its starting line.

One athlete from each team races at a time.
The coach calls out a cone color (for example, “Red!”). Athletes must listen carefully, sprint to the matching cone, run around it, then race back to the start and knock over the foam roller on top of the box.
The first athlete to knock over their foam roller wins the round and earns a point for their team.
To keep the game moving, have the coach (or a helper) reset the foam rollers after each race. Rotate the order of athletes throughout the game so they compete against different classmates each round.
