🍂 Wellness Wednesday: Finding Your Fall Routine
September has a way of bringing structure back into our lives. Summer schedules wind down, routines change, and calendars start filling up again.
That makes this a great time to think about your routine—not just how often you’re getting to the pool, but whether your schedule is actually working for you.
🏊 Make swimming a consistent part of your week
😴 Protect enough time for sleep and recovery
🥗 Give your body the fuel it needs
📅 Leave room for work, family, friends, and everything else life brings
💙 Remember that consistency doesn’t require perfection
For Masters swimmers, a sustainable routine might mean six practices a week for one person and two or three for someone else. What matters is finding a rhythm you can maintain without making swimming another source of stress.
As we settle into fall, ask yourself: Does my routine support the way I want to feel—or am I just trying to fit everything in?
Sometimes the healthiest change isn’t adding more. It’s creating a little more balance.

Another successful Donut Day practice in the books! 🍩🏊‍♂️☕️

Nothing beats a good Saturday morning swim followed by Dunkin’ coffee, donuts, and some time together on the pool deck. Thanks to everyone who stuck around and joined us!

Great swimming, great company, and—most importantly—donuts. 😄

🧠 Wellness Wednesday: Mental Health Check-In
It’s time for our quarterly mental health check-in.
Just like we pay attention to how our bodies feel in the water, it’s important to check in with how we’re doing mentally and emotionally, too.
Take a moment today and ask yourself: Where am I right now?
🟢 Green: I’m feeling good, managing stress well, and have the energy to handle what’s on my plate.
🟡 Yellow: I’m doing okay, but stress, fatigue, motivation, or other pressures are starting to build. I may need to make some adjustments or give myself a little extra recovery.
🔴 Red: I’m overwhelmed, burned out, or struggling. It may be time to step back, reach out to someone, and give my mental health the attention it deserves.
There’s no “right” color to be on today. The important part is recognizing where you are and responding to what you need.
And remember: swimming can be a great outlet for stress, but it doesn’t always have to be another goal to accomplish. Some days the win is a great workout. Other days, it’s simply showing up, moving your body, and spending an hour with your teammates.

Three years ago, Bill Morley joined PCY Masters hoping to improve the weakest part of his sprint triathlons—swimming. He thought a couple of weeks might be enough to figure it out. Three years later, Bill says he’s still trying to learn how to swim fast.
The results suggest he’s doing pretty well. 🏆
This year, Bill won the Sprint Triathlon National Championship for the 75–79 age group, and this month he’s headed to Pontevedra, Spain, with Team USA to compete in the Sprint Triathlon World Championship! 🇺🇸
Along the way, PCY Masters has become an important part of Bill’s training routine. He credits the great group of ladies in Column 4 with making mornings more enjoyable—and admits the locker room banter afterward might just be his favorite part of the day.
Congratulations, Bill, and good luck in Spain! We’re proud to have you representing Team USA and PCY Masters!

🏊‍♂️ Wellness Wednesday: Swim With Purpose
As August comes to a close, it's the perfect time to think about what you want from your swimming this fall.
Your goal doesn't have to be standing on a podium or setting a lifetime best. Success looks different for everyone.
Maybe your goal is to:
✅ Swim three practices each week.
✅ Learn a new stroke.
✅ Improve your turns.
✅ Build endurance.
✅ Enter your first Masters meet.
✅ Simply enjoy time in the water with friends.
Whatever your goal is, make it personal and make it achievable.
The small choices you've made this month—showing up consistently, recovering well, and focusing on technique—are the foundation for continued progress.
💙 Take a minute this week to write down one goal for the season ahead. A clear purpose makes every practice more meaningful.

🏊‍♂️ Wellness Wednesday: Small Improvements Add Up
Swimming faster isn't always about swimming harder.
Sometimes the biggest improvements come from refining the little things:
✔️ A tighter streamline off every wall.
✔️ A smoother, more relaxed stroke.
✔️ Better body position.
✔️ More efficient turns and breakouts.
Those small adjustments may only save a fraction of a second each length, but over the course of an entire practice—or a race—they can make a noticeable difference.
This week, pick one technical skill to focus on during every practice. By giving it your attention consistently, you'll build better habits that last far longer than a single workout.
Remember: fitness gets you through practice, but technique helps you swim efficiently for years to come.
💙 What's one part of your stroke you've been working to improve lately?

🏊‍♀️ Wellness Wednesday: Recovery Happens Outside the Pool
It's easy to think improvement only comes from the workouts you complete. In reality, your body gets stronger during recovery.
Good recovery doesn't have to be complicated. Focus on the basics:
😴 Get enough sleep.
💧 Stay hydrated.
🥗 Fuel your body with nutritious foods.
🚶 Keep moving with light activity on your rest days.
Recovery isn't about doing less—it's about giving your body what it needs so you can perform your best the next time you dive in.
This week, choose one recovery habit to improve. Small changes outside the pool can lead to big improvements in the water.
💙 What's your favorite way to recover after a tough practice?
