Well we did it again! We pulled off a very successful Criterium Race! I heard nothing but praise for our race and especially the volunteers' many thank you's throughout the day. I am always blown away by the support this club brings when we have an event to promote our joy of cycling. Danny Saccoccio and Robb Hoenick were essential to my sanity as race day drew closer. They organized the volunteers, called on the club assigned tasks and you all got it done!
Cheryl Chouinard Del Colle set up registration and worked the day with MaryEllen Leveille , Cathy, Donna, and Michelle Rose to ensure the 250+ racers were checked in. Michelle, Andy and Matt S were the reason no one was hungry or thirsty all day. Craig set us up with a fantastic Sunshine Criterium logo, surprised us with the great banner for the podium and brought some refreshing adult beverages! Jeremy and Robin were crucial for runs with the truck shuttling riders to the ER and making runs for extra drinks as needed. Bonnie Lewis patched up cuts and abrasions like a pro. I know I am missing other volunteers who helped with setup and breaking everything down or were just there when needed. John Harris a true talent on the mic! He kept us all entertained with his fantastic commentary! A great mix of tunes to keep everyone excited. Then he even threw his kit on and was able to race in the fastest field of the day. I can't thank you ALL enough for all that you do to continue to support us!
I was talking with another cyclist, who ironically was involved in today's crash. He mentioned he was thinking about joining our club, but wasn't sure. He was impressed with the camaraderie, teamwork and noted the care we all have for each other- All that comes with being a part of our team and that special sense of belonging. Today was something to be proud of!
If anyone has any pictures to share, please go to this google shared album. We will be creating a web page for the crit where we will be able to share all pictures. For now, simply attach them here till we're up and running. I'm sure Danny will come up with another great race report for today, we all have a version of our own best race (feel free to share any memorable things on here as well).
