This week’s ’PROFILE OF AN ELEVATED ERNIE’ goes to my tip-top and top-notch BARBER, Kobe.

Kobe is a friendly guy who you’ll find dropping scissor dimes at UNTLTD Tattoo + Barber Co. in Cedar Falls.

I knew from my first hairdo I’d sit in Kobe’s chair for as long my hair exists.

A bad haircut can turn an ELEVATED ERNIE into a DEBBIE DOWNER.

Kobe personifies the Barber spirit with great listening ears and an equally eclectic sense of expression.

Kobe has an adventurous spirit that takes him very cool places near and far!

Kobe is the epitome of getting out and living it.

He does it all with a smile.

Whatcha gonna do when the s**t hits the fan?

Some people choose to ignore it.

Some people choose to slip it under the rug.

Some people run from it.

These things don’t seem to work.

Some people choose to face it.

When we stay and face it, maybe we build our confidence to endure hard things.

Maybe we train the brain to be calm in a stressful environment.

TPM would never claim to have all the answers…

BUT

I figured out what works best for me when the s**t hits the fan…

FACE IT FOR EXACTLY WHAT IT IS….

AND TO THE THINGS I CAN’T CONTROL…

AND TO THE THINGS I CAN CONTROL…

I say…

GOOD EVENING FROM TPM!

If you like to drink, do you have a favorite night you like to ‘tie one on?’

When I was dominating suds I woulda said ‘EVERY NIGHT…

BUT

Somehow SUNDAY always seemed like a good day to drink a few extra IPA’s.

Maybe walk a little more crooked.

Maybe talk too much s**t.

Maybe disappear somehow within the same house.

Maybe ‘Add to Cart’ some unnecessary item.

Wake up the next day to a email saying my ‘Robotic Clown’ had shipped from Amazon.

From my willing hand to my willing mouth I poured hops on Sundays with reckless abandon.

Why did I STOP?

I figured it out…

I like my SUNDAYS without it.

I like my ENERGY without it.

I like my MIND without it.

I like my BODY without it.

I like MYSELF more without it…

I like my LIFE more without it.

So I’ll skip the suds this SUNDAY and drink a tasty Non-alcoholic instead!

763 days NO ALCOHOL…

No pat on the back…

S**t can be done!

The chaotic nature of life sometimes detracts us from noticing the most precious things around us.

The gift of life happens everyday WITHIN us, but the OUTSIDE world and its uncontrolled circumstances often prevent us from mastering our interiority.

Sitting quietly to notice the magic of all things…

AND

The spirit of gratitude talks to me with each breathe I take.

I shouldn’t forget that others didn’t get the chance today and millions are suffering…

WHILE

I ponder this incredible gift I’ve been given…

I CAN ONLY THINK

Another day upright is alright…

Maybe you’re mad about something you never HAD…

BUT

Be glad you ever HAD!

YOU ARE HERE AND BREATHING AND THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING RIGHT NOW!
