The Cassia County Fair is proud to announce Al and Kathy Barrus as the 2026 Grand Marshals. Known throughout the community for their selfless service, enduring kindness, and unwavering dedication to Cassia County, the Barrus’ have been selected to lead this year’s festivities in recognition of their decades of commitment to both the fair and the people of the Mini-Cassia area.
With deep roots in the Cassia community spanning more than 50 years, Al and Kathy have devoted their lives to strengthening the place they proudly call home. After receiving their bachelor’s degrees at Brigham Young University, Al and Kathy moved to Moscow where Al earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho. Al later served as Cassia County Prosecuting Attorney for 36 years and practiced law for over four decades, including 40 years as attorney for the city of Oakley. Throughout his legal career, he became especially known for his work in adoption law, helping create countless families across the region — work he has often described as the most meaningful and rewarding part of his career.
Together, Al and Kathy have quietly and faithfully served their community in countless ways. Their involvement has touched nearly every corner of local life, including leadership and service in 4-H, scouting programs, PTA, the Oakley Valley Arts Council, Kiwanis, and many years of devoted church service. Most recently, they served a mission together in Brazil, continuing their lifelong pattern of giving their time and talents in service to others.
Al and Kathy represent everything the fair stands for — tradition, service, family, and homegrown values. Honoring them as this year’s Grand Marshals is a tribute not only to their remarkable legacy, but also a reminder that the true heart of the fair is found in the people who dedicate their lives to making this community stronger.
