Longspur.app isn’t just for finding trackers—it’s also a wildlife management tool built for hunters and the outdoor community.
Longspur covers all 50 states, giving hunters across the country a place to share valuable information about wildlife activity in their area.
One of our management tools allows hunters to report suspected EHD cases and outbreaks directly to the Longspur heat map. By sharing these locations, hunters can see where EHD has been reported and get a better understanding of how outbreaks are impacting deer in their area.
If you find a deer you believe may have been affected by EHD, help add that information to the map. The more hunters contribute, the more useful the data becomes for everyone.

One of the telltale signs of an EHD death is the “struggle” ring. As that fever gets to its highest and discomfort right before death, the deer will kick and spin in a circle in place creating a struggle ring. Reports are still coming! Thank you! The crowd sourcing of information is important, why? Because we share data at no charge with state game agencies. This is not a knock on the agencies but most are understaffed and overworked. Their reported numbers can be a lot lower than what’s actually on the ground. We encourage everyone to report to their local DNR biologist and put a report in. Why? Crowd sourced info lets the public know the extent, the areas affected and what everyone is seeing. This quiets the social media hype that can over blow a breakout. You can report straight on our website at www.longspur.app or download the app and become a cooperator! Thank you!

EHD is not government or man made! It is carried by no see um midges that carry the virus. They bite deer and transmit the virus. Southern West Virginia is getting slammed with EHD! Mingo County is ground zero. Reports are coming in and the heat map is lighting up showing the extent. We talked with WVDNR District 5 biologists yesterday. They were in the field yesterday getting the first samples for testing.
If you see EHD affected deer, please take a moment to report them for FREE on our app, also please report to your local DNR biologists.
We have over 30 deer reported dead in these areas, the more reports, the more accurate the numbers. This function about crowd sourcing information to provide details for landowners and hunters to make decisions! If you find deer report them with pictures!
