“My horse takes a Medium Wide.”
We hear this all the time — but saddle tree width is only one piece of the fit puzzle.

A Medium Wide in one brand is not necessarily the same as a Medium Wide in another. And even if the width seems right, the saddle still has to work with the horse's back shape.

Panel shape, tree shape and angle, balance, seat/tree design, and the overall geometry of the saddle all influence how that saddle actually fits.

Tree width is a starting point — not a saddle fit.

That's why choosing a saddle based on the letter stamped on the tree or the color of a gullet plate can be misleading.

We're excited to have one of the new Kent & Masters R-Series Cob & Connie saddles here at Patchwork Saddlery!

Our new arrival is a gorgeous 17" brown Cob & Connie, priced at $1,995.

So, what exactly is a Cob & Connie?

Kent & Masters developed this GP saddle with Cobs, Connemaras and other flatter-backed horses in mind. The overall shape and design of the saddle have been developed for this type of conformation.

Some of the features we particularly like include:

🐴 The seat is shaped to provide a closeness that is often difficult to achieve with this conformation
🐴 Slimline panels for a closer feel
🐴 100% British wool flocked panels, allowing fitting adjustments
🐴 Moveable knee blocks to accommodate different riders
🐴 Multiple girthing options to help with saddle stability
🐴 Kent & Masters' changeable gullet system (S-Bar)

We love having different tree and panel shapes available because horses aren't all shaped alike—and saddles shouldn't be either.
