Sitting lower doesn’t always mean creating more power.

When we ask a hitter to feel their legs, the goal isn’t simply to squat deeper. It’s to find a position where we are hinged at the hips, allowing the lower half to support the posture and contribute to the turn.

Too low, and a hitter can feel stuck, needing to stand up before they can move through the baseball.

→ Feel the load without forcing extra depth.
→ Keep room for the hips to turn.
→ Maintain posture while moving with intent.

The goal is a position you can move from, not just a position you can hold.

Don’t be allergic to the ground 👀

Working with one of our top youth athletes on keeping his hips underneath him and maintaining posture through the swing.

When his hips rise early, his torso comes up with them, changing the space he has to deliver the barrel. The focus is to work underneath with the hips so he can continue turning while staying behind the baseball.

→ Keep the legs involved through the turn.
→ Work underneath with the hips instead of lifting out.
→ Maintain space to deliver the barrel.

“Stay down” is easy to say. Helping an athlete feel how to move differently is where we see changes.

Going backside doesn’t mean giving up your best swing 🔑

In this session with Benjamin Torres we’re focusing on using the front side breaks, maintaining posture, and trusting the turn to drive the ball to the opposite field.

When the hips rise and the body leans back, you change the position you have to rotate from. We’re working toward a more centered turn that allows him to attack the pitch with intent.

Key Areas of Focus:
→ Control forward momentum with the lead side
→ Maintain posture as the hips and torso rotate
→ Turn through the swing instead of relying on a hand flip
→ Trust the ability to drive the outside pitch with authority

Good brakes. A strong turn. Intent to do damage.

Your preparation for spring begins with how you approach winter.

For college pitchers and hitters, the time at home is an opportunity to build on the progress made during the fall. Your training should reflect your performance, your college coaches’ feedback, and the specific areas that need attention before you return.

An individualized plan gives that time direction.

→ Reinforce the strengths developed this fall
→ Address specific needs in your delivery or swing
→ Progress with purpose through consistent training and feedback
→ Return to campus with greater clarity, confidence, and readiness to compete

Waiting until the final weeks leaves less time to establish and reinforce meaningful adjustments. Having a plan from the moment you arrive allows each week to contribute to your preparation and long term development.

DM us “WINTER” to discuss your individualized winter training plan.

Your posture helps shape what comes out of your hand 🗣️

The orientation of your torso influences the position your arm works through and how you deliver the baseball. When that orientation changes unintentionally from pitch to pitch, your release and ex*****on can change with it.

→ Release Height, Arm Slot & Extension
→ Hand Position & Spin Direction
→ Pitch Shape & Breaking Ball Sharpness
→ Release Angle & Downward Trajectory
→ Command & Location Consistency
→ Timing & Energy Transfer

Build repeatable positions. Create more consistent ex*****on.

🔥 Hill Take of the Week 🔥

This week’s question: Should you throw high intent every day of the week in your program?

Every throwing day should have a purpose. How you organize intensity, volume, and recovery matters just as much as the effort you bring.

→ Know the objective of each session
→ Understand your total throwing workload
→ Make room for recovery between demanding days

How do you structure your throwing week? Give us your thoughts in the comments below.

Better posture starts with what you feel underneath you 🔑

Helping one of our youth athletes connect the feeling in his glute and legs to his ability to hold posture. The goal is simple: use the lower half to support the move so the upper body can turn without losing position.

Key Areas of Focus:
→ Load into the glute
→ Feel the legs supporting the movement
→ Keep the torso controlled
→ Turn while maintaining posture

Feel the scissor, but don’t lose the turn 🔄

Yes, for this particular athlete we want to feel the scissor with the hips. But we don’t want the hips to scissor while the hands work east to west across the body.

Maintain space between your torso and the baseball and turn through that space. That turn allows the scissor to happen naturally instead of becoming a separate move you’re trying to force.

Key Areas of Focus:
→ Maintain space between your torso and the baseball
→ Feel the turn behind the ball
→ Keep the hands from cutting across the body
→ Let the scissor happen as part of the turn

“Get in the best position possible to make the best decision possible”

Keep the focus simple. When you’re centered and able to hold your posture, you give yourself a better chance to see it early, make a decision, and turn behind the baseball without forcing the swing.

Key Areas of Focus:
→ Stay centered and balanced
→ Get into a position you can maintain
→ Hold your posture through the turn
→ Keep the objective simple

Better positioning makes the next move easier 👀

A look at the recovery side of returning to throw 👀

our physical therapist at The Hill, works with one of our athletes following a throwing day during his rehab from nerve transposition surgery.

The throwing is one part of the process. Having support between sessions is another.

→ Recover
→ Reassess
→ Progress with purpose
