"To a mind that is still,
the whole Universe surrenders."
Waley (quoting The Book of Taoist Zhuang)

From Lu Ji (261-303), "Summoning a Hermit":
"To still the Unquiet Mind
The Hermit dwells
In a secluded valley,
In the morning
Gathers cress
By the southern waterfall,
In the evening
Rests
At the foot of the western hills...
The splashing of the mountain stream,
The cleansing jade-song of the cascade:
Perfect Joys such as these,
The unsullied Simplicity
Of the uncarved Block,
Cannot be feigned."
From Tao Te Ching, John Minford

Qigong practice in the colder season
The Qigong practices change during the year.
Staying in tune with the rhythm of the seasons allows us to experience new vitality, emotional stability, and a profound sense of inner peace.

The element of Metal is associated with Autumn

When the leaves change colour, and the air grows cooler, it's the perfect time to immerse yourself in the practice of deep breathing and activating the lung and large intestine meridians with movement.
This ancient form of movement and meditation can be practised in any season, but it unfolds a special power during the autumn months.
Just as nature sheds its leaves in autumn, this practice helps strengthen the transformation from low energy to vitality and detoxify the body.

The "Metal" element helps us to “cut off” unnecessary habits, let go and turn inward.

By letting go of what weighs you down, you create space for new growth and transformation, mirroring the cycle of the seasons.
