How to stop dreading going to the gym!
Step 1. Find a gym you LOVE.
Finding a gym you love within a reasonable distance to you may sound like an obvious answer, but it’s sooooo important.
Instead of thinking about the gym and groaning in anticipation of how s**t it’s going to be, you can actually look forward to the idea of pampering yourself, taking care of your body and being surrounded by good people. On top of that it just feels good to invest into ourselves and if it costs a bit more $$ we are more likely to feel guilty if we don’t go (and therefore go more often).
If you feel like “oh well that’s all very nice but that’s a tad expenny Tia”…. are there other areas of your life you could take the cash from to put into a good gym membership? For me personally, I don’t drink or go out, so I use the money I would spend on that and put it into a membership instead! ✨
2 Find a gym buddy 👯♀️
That’s right another obvious one. But this will help you both stay accountable, It will help you push yourself and your buddy harder aaaaaand bonus it will help you stay connected to your friend!
Follow a program together and take turns doing the exercises. I’m sure a bit of healthy competition will even arise 😉
3 Don’t do sh*t you hate.
That’s right, I said it. If you hate it, whether that be an exercise, a particular class, a cardio machine or even a part of recovery then there’s a simple solution to get through it easily:
DONT. DO. IT.
You’ll just end up not going or associating feelings of dislike and exhaustion towards the gym. Eventually, once your new habit and love for the gym sets in (and it will) things you swore you would always hate will actually become enjoyable and sneak into your workout program.
Summary: the way you approach the gym is far more important than you think in your journey to a healthier (and happier) you.
Setting yourself up with a good gym, a program you like and a great community are all critical parts of your fitness journey!
