Something a bit different was going on in the Napier boxing gym last night. 😮

Coach Beau held their monthly men's group where they had the team from 9D Aotearoa come in and run a breathwork session. 🌬

This is more than just a breathing exercise. It was a full-on experience. 🙌🏽💯

Targeted at addressing, releasing, and rebuilding men from the inside out.✅️

Any men out there who may be going through tough times feel free to reach out to him on his page Men-Till-Health you are not alone. We are all in this together

This weekend was a special milestone for our club as Violet became the second young female to graduate from our Female Rangatahi Academy, transition into our competitive squad, and step through the ropes for her very first boxing bout.

While we're incredibly proud of Violet's achievement, we're equally proud of the pathway that helped get her there.

What makes our programme different is that our Female Rangatahi Academy is led by an all female coaching team. Not only do our coaches know boxing inside and out with two of our coaches having represented New Zealand on the international stage, but we also understand what it means to be female in a sport where females are still the minority.

We understand that young girls often face unique barriers to participation. We understand the importance of creating an environment where they feel safe, supported, and empowered. We understand that female athletes aren't simply smaller versions of male athletes, and that training should reflect the realities of female bodies, including the impact that monthly cycles can have on performance, recovery, and wellbeing.

Most importantly, we understand the power of representation.

When our rangatahi walk into the gym, they don't just see other girls boxing, they see females coaching, mentoring, leading, and standing proudly in the corner on fight night. They see people who look like them succeeding in the sport they love. That visibility matters.

Our goal has never been simply to create good boxers. It's to help our young girls discover their own strength, build confidence, and develop the belief that they belong in any space they choose to enter, including boxing, a sport that remains heavily male dominated.

Violet's debut bout is the result of countless hours of hard work, courage, and commitment. But it's also a reminder of what can happen when young girls are given the opportunity, support, and role models they deserve.

Congratulations, Violet. We are incredibly proud of you, and we can't wait to see where your boxing journey takes you next 🥊💜

And a huge thank you to Sport Hawke's Bay for your belief in our program and all its achieving with our young girls in HB.

A huge day out for Napier Boxing' rangatahi where we had 4 boxers competing at Nabby's Boxing GYM in Hamilton 🥊

So many great experiences for our team, and lot's of lessons learnt that we can take back to the club and work on.

Violet had a fantastic debut match against a beautiful young lady from in what was a nail bitting match that could have gone either way. Violet losing on asplit decision.

Airon had his first fight back after a 2 year break against a strong and skilled boxer from . Airon proved he's conditioned enough to keep up with the power of the older and more experienced guys, and will take all the learnings back to the gym to come back stronger in his next match. We're taking the loss as a learn.

Quinn started slowly but finally found his inner competitiveness in the last round and showed us all he is more than capable of boxing strongly and accurately, taking a split win.

Lokeni had one of his hardest matches he's had, against Boston from Nabby's Boxing GYM. Boston has an increadible work rate and really knows how to move, forcing Lokeni to match his work rate and continue to keep re finding his range taking a very close split decision win. And lokeni was also lucky to win the Junior Belt of the day.

Thank you to Dion and the team at Nabby's for putting on a well run tournament as per normal.

Thank you to all our opponents and their clubs for all the mahi you do and bringing us quality matches that we can all learn from.

Thank you to all our whanaus who support their rangatahi by encouraging them at home, believing in their journey, and trusting me to take good care of them in the gym and away at tournaments.

Naomi 💜

Golden Gloves 2026 wrapped up

Napier Boxing took away 5 rangatahi boxers this year with it being an all new experience for 3 of them.

Lots of learnings for the team with sparring opportunities, matched bouts, and learning from watching all the 202 bouts over the span of 3 days 🥊🥊

Ben Wright 🥇
Quinn Bartlett 🥉
Peta Byers 🥇 unopposed
Lokeni Leutele 🥇 unopposed
Mercede Eunson (withdrawn due to broken nose)

Both Mercede and Peta were also volunteers and worked as glove runners for 3 of the 5 sessions. Well done girls for your mahi 👍

And a huge thank you has to go out to Quinn's mum Bex, who traveled with the team, did all the cooking and running of boxers around, so Naomi could focus on doing her job. Thank you Bex, you were a super star 🌟 💜

Ben was lucky to get the bye through to the finals this year, or unlucky if you want to look at it that he would rather have fought his way through as only Ben does best 👍

But either way, Ben went into the finals with a winning mindset and knew exactly what he had to do to win, and he did that perfectly, taking out a well deserved unanimous win 🏆

Ben won in the Novice Golden Glove division in 2024, took 2025 Golden Gloves off, and has come back to win in the Open Golden Glove division in 2026!

Super happy with Ben's performance, and know that he is continuing to grow and learn as a fighter, and there's plenty more to come for this young man.

Definitely one proud coach as my smile shows 😎

1st day at the North Island 2026 Golden Glove Championships.

We had Quinn fighting in the semi finals in what was an increadibly close bout that could have gone either way with both boys showing great skills and determination over the 3 rounds, but unfortunately went his opponents way in a split win.

Super happy with Quinn's performance at his first Golden Gloves, and know that he'll be taking the learn back to the gym and coming back even stronger 💪🥊
