Ratana Wāhine have made history
GRAND FINAL CHAMPIONS!

Established in 2024, Ratana Rugby League celebrates our wāhine winning their first grand final in just their third season.

Our season opened with a loss to Linton Cobras. From there, our wāhine went undefeated, growing in their knowledge of the game and trusting the process and each other.

The final brought us back against Linton in a tough grind, with both sides matching each other in attack and defence. Our wāhine played with hunger, backing themselves and creating opportunities when there seemed to be none.

MVP Meilini Lawedua delivered a massive performance, powering through with strong runs to put Ratana on the scoreboard. Our superstars Mia McDonnell, Armani Martin, Te Mauriora Hamahona and Aromea Fox stood tall with solid carries, try-saving tackles and plenty of heart.

Aromea went down making a try-saving tackle, giving her all for her team. Wishing you a speedy recovery, our girl. Rest up and take the time you need to heal. Your Ratana whānau are right behind you.

Our forwards did the hard mahi through the middle, while our halves created openings and placed beautiful kicks to keep Linton under pressure. When the ball went wide, our wāhine showed what they could do. Every player contributed to this win.

To our coach, management, whānau and supporters, thank you for believing in this team and walking alongside us.

A special mihi to our Finals volunteers:
Ball boys — Jesse Wakefield & Bentley Pene Whanarere-Nahona.

Tee Girl - Kirikowhai Herewini

Scoreboard, Facebook Live & commentary 😜 — Whetu, Kiriwai & Ngawai Hamahona.

Thank you for your mahi and keeping our whānau connected.

Our first grand final, our first title. A proud moment for our club and our Paa

Our legacy is still being written…

What an emotional way to finish the season.

20 men took the field today and did us proud.
We’ve battled for numbers this year, but our faithful ones kept turning up, week after week. This game was for them just as much as it was for the kaupapa.

More than a game: two clubs, one whānau. We’re proud to bring the P**i Ngaira Jr Memorial Trophy home again. A massive mihi to everyone who came out in support.

To Whanganui Boxon, thank you for hosting such a special day and bringing us all together afterwards over a beautiful spread. We felt the aroha from start to finish.

That’s our season done and dusted. Time to rest, tend to the little niggles, reset, and take in the words shared after the game. See you all in the coming weeks.
