Julian Bowden

The ESNZ Board has regretfully accepted the resignation of Chief Executive Julian Bowden, who will take up the role of president of New Zealand Football.

Julian joined the organisation in 2021, and under his leadership, ESNZ has been through a period of significant change, including regulatory requirements, new initiatives, increased access to funding for riders across the disciplines, growing commercial revenue and the introduction of the likes of the New Zealand Secondary School Championship and the Strengthen and Adapt Programme.

Chair of the ESNZ Board Hannah Walton extended a sincere thanks to Julian for his leadership and contribution to equestrian sport over the past five years.

β€œJulian has helped strengthen the organisation from grass roots to high performance, supporting the growth of equestrian sport across the country. We wish him all the best for the future,” she said.

Julian said it had been a privilege to work alongside the ESNZ board, staff, discipline boards, members and many stakeholders.

β€œI am proud of the progress made during my tenure and grateful for the support, challenge and collaboration I have experienced throughout this time,” he said.

Recruitment for a new chief executive will begin shortly. Julian will remain in his role to provide critical transitional support and ensure continuity for ESNZ staff and the wider community.
