I was employed to deliver client sessions.

Over time, I found myself held accountable for tasks outside my role, particularly scheduling and bookings. Expectations kept on shifting, often without prior notification. Shifting boundaries creates tension.

👉 Reflection:
Clear role boundaries are essential for both performance and wellbeing.

The Expat Reality

Working in a new country means stepping into unfamiliar systems. You rely on your employer for:
processes
expectations
structure

If these aren’t clearly defined, it can create confusion very quickly.

👉 Reflection:
Clarity at the beginning can prevent a lot of stress later.

Stop chasing clients.

Start building community.

That’s where real growth happens.

One of the biggest mistakes I see studio owners make is believing they need more marketing, more promotions, or more followers to grow their business.

But sustainable growth rarely comes from constantly chasing new clients.

It comes from creating a place where people feel:

✨ Welcome
✨ Valued
✨ Supported
✨ Connected

When people feel like they belong, they stay.

They tell their friends.

They become advocates for your studio.

They celebrate your successes and support you through challenges.

A thriving Pilates studio isn't built on transactions.

It's built on relationships.

Ask yourself:

💭 Do my clients know each other's names?
💭 Do they feel part of something bigger than an exercise class?
💭 Am I building a community or simply delivering sessions?

The most successful studios I've seen aren't necessarily the ones with the biggest marketing budgets.

They're the ones that create genuine connection.

Stop chasing clients.

Start building community.

That's where real growth happens.

✨ What do you want people to feel when they walk into your studio? ✨

Not what they do.
Not what they achieve.

But what they feel.

Because long after the exercises are finished… that feeling is what stays.

Is it…
🌿 A sense of calm after a busy day?
💛 Feeling seen, supported, and understood?
🧘‍♀️ Confidence in their body again?
🌸 A safe space where they can just be themselves?

As studio owners and teachers, we often focus on programming, technique, and results.

But the true magic lies in the experience we create.

👉 The way you greet someone
👉 The tone of your voice
👉 The energy in the room
👉 The culture you build

These are the things that shape how people feel.

And how people feel… determines whether they come back.

Take a moment today and ask yourself:
Does my studio reflect how I want people to feel?

From Heart to Purpose: The Story Behind My Pilates Studio and Book
When I first opened Hearts and Bones Pilates in 2002, my goal was simple: to create a business doing what I loved, teaching movement and helping people feel better in their bodies. After spending seven years working in other studios, observing what worked and what didn’t, I set out to build something of my own. A place with integrity. A place where people felt seen.
But what began as a personal pursuit quickly evolved into something much deeper.
As the studio grew and I became more confident running the business, I realised something important: having the right systems and tools wasn’t enough. What truly made the difference, what transformed my business into a thriving space of healing and growth, was leading with heart.
Every day, I witnessed transformation that went far beyond posture, a flatter tummy or pain relief. Clients who once came in anxious and reserved started to laugh, to engage, to light up the room. People who felt weak or invisible found strength, not just physical strength, but emotional resilience, renewed confidence, and a sense of belonging.
It wasn’t just the exercises. It was the community.
The more I focused on nurturing that community, and creating a safe, welcoming, purpose-driven space, the more the business flourished. And it didn’t stop at the studio walls. Together, my clients and I began reaching out to help others in the wider community.
We ran charity drives and art auctions, hosted donation-based workshops, and raised funds for organisations like Women’s Refuge and Days for Girls. We supported women facing violence in their homes and helped fight period poverty around the world. What started as a simple Pilates studio became a hub for connection, empowerment, and change.
This journey led me to write Pilates & Purpose, a book born from experience, trial and error, and the belief that a Pilates studio can be more than a business. It can be a place of transformation, for the owner, for the team, and for every client who walks through the door.
If you’re a teacher or studio owner who wants to build something meaningful, something that reflects your values and lifts others up along the way, this book is for you.

With purpose and heart,
Tania

Passion will get you started.
But structure is what sustains you.
You need both.

A Pilates studio built with purpose is more than a business; it’s a place where lives change, including your own.

Success in a Pilates business comes from a balance between teaching, managing, and sustaining yourself. The quality of your systems helps you to create balance.

Want to know how to achieve this?

My book Pilates & Purpose gives you the tools you need to build a business. One that sustains you, your clients, staff, and wider community. Buy your copy from Amazon.

“Your why is the compass of your business.”
When things feel unclear, overwhelming, or frustrating…
It’s often because you’ve drifted away from your “why.”

Your why:
- guides your decisions

- shapes your culture

- attracts the right clients

Without it, you’re just reacting. With it, you’re leading.

If you’re ready to build a Pilates studio that feels aligned,
sustainable, and meaningful…

Pilates & Purpose is your guide.

Build a Pilates business that nourishes more than just the bottom line.

In today’s fast-changing wellness industry, it’s not enough to offer great classes or trendy techniques, clients are looking for connection, authenticity, and purpose. They want to be seen, heard, and supported by businesses that lead with heart, not just hustle.

That’s why now is the time for heart-centered studios.
A heart-centered studio is one where:

Values guide business decisions

Staff wellbeing matters as much as client satisfaction

Community is cultivated, not just counted

Success is measured not only by revenue, but by the positive impact you create

In a post-pandemic world, people are craving spaces that offer more than a workout. They’re searching for meaning, belonging, and alignment.

This is your invitation to build that space.
I wrote Pilates & Purpose to support teachers and studio owners who feel the same. It’s a guide to building a purpose-driven Pilates business that’s both sustainable and soulful.
